FOREVER BEATS: After Some Serious Use.....................

This app is phat.

I guess the genres it is best for would be deep house, tech house, ambient, and that old kick/sub style nuero techno from the 90s.

I would def get this app after I had time to play with it.

It definitely could be thought of as a more space and sub inspired cousin to Elastic Drums. So, if you dig ED, you will surely enjoy this.

It is highly tweakable if you are also into that, much LFO levels of fun and creativity.

I would like to see it go Universal and LINK, but besides that this app is worth its price of admission.

  • Oh sorry here are some other key points for me on this app I thought you might find useful.

It is NOT A DRUM APP.

It is a more, I hate to use the term, but "Groove Box".

And don't be scared by the words like Techno in the description, I don't make techno. The other end of the spectrum this app is great for is LOFI type electro grunge type sound. Mostly due to the versatility of the LFO and MANY parameters.

    Thanks for reading.

  • It has that look of competent design. Wish it was universal

It really sounds like it could be my thing, but, I have to be much more thoughtful about my app purchasing nowadays, so I'm still on the fence until Doug, Jakob, AudioDabbler, or Pants of Death Do a decent demo video. What about a video of your testing session @RustiK, and thanks for the positive review for this app

  • I don't think of it as a 'drum app' either. It's a back beat maker of sorts. I like to make a certain sort of sparse industrial rhythm I think of as Radioheady (technical term) and this seems to lead to that more easily than most...I do survey the vast heap of drum thingies I have bought with a jaundiced eye sometimes, but this object is on a different pile and I'm glad I have it....

Any sample tracks you've used this app on in your soundcloud lib?

No, not yet, but it's the end of the month, the SOTMC pressure for March hasn't started yet, so maybe it's a good time to noodle something together :)

I tell you what, let me find a stand for my iPhone to film me.

    I am by myself.

  • "Dance like nobody's watching"

  • I didn't realize that this is also a sequencer for outside hardware.

Waiting to see if a vid from dev is available.

  • Hi - thanks for the kind words.

I uploaded another video today so you can see how you can use Forever Beats to simultaneously sequence a Volca Bass and Poison:

There will be an update coming out over the next days with virtual MIDI - so it will be even easier to integrate Forever Beats into a setup. Its done, I just got to wait for acceptance from Apple.

Lastly I would just like to ask that if you got the app and you like it please give me a nice review on itunes :)

    Cheers - John.

    Hi John

Does the app have MIDI Clock sync ?.....It looks like I could use it alongside Novation Circuit to get more sequencer lanes if it does

  • Not yet. However - its coming. The first thing I wanted to do was get virtual MIDI up and running. Now that is done (should be released over the weekend or early next week) I will be moving onto the next thing on the list which is.... MIDI clock sync :)

Cool, I'll keep an eye out for the update

  • @John_H bought this last night and am diggin it. Is there a manual somewhere?

Actually, might not need a full manual, as I've found its use very intuitive so far. Sometimes I think the midi out isn't connecting as it should, but I understand there's an imminent update coming that will hopefully address that.

At the bottom of each triggered beat in the sequence, there's a small black dot on every step. However, in some of the preset patterns the small black dot isn't on every step. As if it signifies something switched on/off for the step. What is that?

And, could you or anyone else explain the basic use of the breaks section works?

  • Hi - there is actually no manual - I should really write one. If you like I can send you an explanation of the app I sent to beta testers... its not a pretty document though.

The little black dot has to do with the breaks. The different locations on the 4x4 breaks matrix say which steps get triggered and in which order.... the little black dots say if a step is going to get triggered or not. So if the breaks marker is in the top right corner of the 4x4 matrix, all of the steps will have a black dot. If you put it in the bottom left, just the first step has a black dot.

Also with the breaks feature the best results are achieved when it is being applied to all tracks, so the "all tracks" slider should be slid to the right. Hope that makes sense!

  • Oh, and yes you are right, that MIDI update is submitted to Apple and I am just waiting for their approval to release it - that should fix your MIDI problems.

Ah! That does make sense. Thanks. Could you clarify exactly the difference the "all tracks" slider is making? I see that I can change the matrix position to set the breaks per track, but what if I've set up each track differently, then slide over the "all tracks" slider... how are the individual track breaks settings handled then?

  • Why is there no manual?

  • The virtual midi update is out.

Just made this at least twice as much fun

Been playing with it a good while this morning after the update. Tried driving 6 different launched synths on 6 different channels with internal synths muted. Kinda worked, but consistently pretty unstable.

Then, I loaded each of the same synths into separate channels in AUM and sent the midi out from Forever Beats to AUM instead. Much better and very stable.

Then, tried the same with 6 instances of Viking Synth AUs on 6 AUM channels with different Viking presets and different AU FX on each channel. Still very stable and great fun! :)

  • This has a new update out, it now has MIDI Clock send and receive. :)

  • Was updated again (yesterday I think) and had a pleasing fiddle with it tonight. Nice enough in and of itself, but then ran a line into Module piano and finally found it very easy to record the midi in Cubasis and swapped out the piano for a Micrologue bass. All very easy (it was me, of course it had to be easy), but simple as a pieman. Just fun. And now a cool bassline also...

  • Forever Beats no longer appears to be in the AppStore. Has it bitten the dust? I really hope not as it holds a little unique place in iOS. I still have it installed thankfully. I’m going to try to record some stems with it while it still works.

@john_H not sure if you are getting this notification but I hope you can keep your app alive!

  • I have created a Forever Beats cloudkit In Patterning while I still have it installed http://olympianoiseco.com/apps/patterning/cloud-kits/32AFE2ED-49F2-4524-96AA-CADBDED912A7/

    Noice.

  • Dope thread

  • Can't get it ?

Nope - see my update a few posts above. It looks like the developer has pulled it. Not making enough money to keep paying the subscription fee I guess. Shame.

  • It gives a certain irony to the name of the app...
