NanoStudio 1 is going to die with iOS11. Plus some good NS2 news...
It's fairly official. NS1 will (likely) not survive the iOS 11 transition. But NS2 is in active development:
From Mr. Matt himself:
OK, so iOS 11 is most likely to be released in September. When it comes out, if you choose to update your device to iOS 11 then I fully expect NanoStudio will no longer run on that device.
I'm aiming to get NanoStudio 2 out before that date, so I still have something to sell and keep Mrs Blip in the style to which she has become accustomed. However, NS2 will not support the old NS1 synth presets since the synth has moved on considerably. NS2 will have basic support for importing TRG kits and it will support audio tracks, so you could do a track mixdown in NS1 and bring the rendered tracks into NS2 - although I appreciate they're no longer editable in the same way.
If you utterly depend upon NS1 then you need to future-proof yourself with one of these alternatives:
- Don't update to iOS 11
- Buy a (or keep your old) device specifically for this use and never update it beyond iOS 10. Pre-owned iPod Touches are fairly cheap ...

Nice.
Will he beat Gadget v3?
Thx @syrupcore for the heads up!
That's good news!
I really want to believe that but a "maybe" release means nothing.

He already wanted it ready last year but a year later we still waiting. Of course he never had given an exact deadline really but i'm not sure if it will be ready this year or ever
Don't trust any developer about these things!
I mean it's a big (too big?) project for a one man show.
I saw a video about U-he yesterday where they said that 15 people working about a year on a synth (15 years manpower). So one man making a DAW
Rim somehow manages this with Auria.
Well-- it's good to have it spelled out from the man himself. I definitely am not going to let go of NS1 until NS2 has been out long enough to go universal. Besides the iPhone 6+ I use, I have my old iPhone 5 and I think that's going to become my frozen-in-airplane-mode Nanostudio 1 device.
Or maybe I'll never let my 6+ update to 11...
All I know is, I keep coming back to NS even when I think I'm done with it, and I always get so much work done there.
The rule so far is that you can update your iOS device to a new version of iOS twice without that it gets slow. SO if you are on a iPhone 6 I would carefully and check reviews wait before updating it.
oh i always wait at least a month and watch the skies before accepting a major iOS update.
If you have a spare iPhone and you never update again it will always be as fast as it is. So I plan to do that with my old 5S but need to fix screen first.
except that its battery will become more and more short-lived, I suppose.
Well, not-good-news and good-news: A pity about 11, but if that does cause the fire to be lit for NS2 then great....
fear not, Mac and Windows users:

Got an iPad mini that will be used for Nanostudio & iSequence .
This is already sorta dead on OSX, isn't it? I haven't tried in a while but I think the last time I tried it (osx 10.10, I think) was white text on white backgrounds.
Oh man, I totally forgot about the free Windows version! I need to try that out on my cheapo RCA tablet.
Well, if nothing else, screengrab your favourite presets and translate them to the new version of NS2. I for one am glad BlipInteractive is moving forward with this. I'm even willing to pay full price for the new version given that it's been stuck in development hell forever, and I assume will have a boatload of new features (including near unlimited everything, or at least limits being so high you needn't worry about being actually limited, lol). (This is different than paying for a full number upgrade just for a scant few bug fixes.)
As long as he doesn't remove the headphone jack, I'm happy.
Free Windows versions for tablets are kickass: Sunvox (now optimized for touch), Caustic (touch enabled since ever).
Works fine on macOS Sierra for me.
Didn't know Caustic on Windows was touch friendly.
It's really cool on the bigger tablet, (Surface Pro 3) the consoles are console sized, buttons, dials and sliders are life sized.
Edit: also the loonier skins ("Paisley Park", "Nautilus") are even more fun.
That's very good news. Cheers.
NS1 is just $2 at the moment. IAP is also $2
Awesome deal if you have an older device
Opened NS1 Fir the first time in ages the other day. I'd forgotten what a breeze it is to put something together in it.
Not long before the new version drops I heard next month hopefully.
My main question is what device you'll need to run the app.
Day after day, I am more convinced to keep my iPad4 to kee those apps alive.
Thanks for the heads-up about the IAP sale.
Works perfect on my HP Stream 7 tablet that you can purchase 2nd had for less than $30
What’s the latency like?
Wow. 30 bucks. Can you hook a midi device to it? How well does the (free) Windows version of nanostudio work?
Probably a good idea, older devices don't seem to have much resale value.
