OT - Bohemian Violin - Last Chance to buy Before Price Goes Up
Those of you like @MusicInclusive who are making orchestral music on your computers and iOS devices are aware of virtual instruments made by Chris Hein, Embertone, Spitfire and others, that allow you to change the articulations by using key switches and to adjust dynamics using the modwheel. You can get some wonderful effects with these instruments, but it takes a lot of practice to get the best out of them.
Virharmonic has come up with a different idea for their Bohemian Violin. You simply play your piano keyboard expressively and they provide the artificial intelligence to change the articulations and the dynamics. They call it Soul Capture. How does it sound? IMHO spectacular. Without question it's my favorite virtual instrument and I play it every day. It's so much fun.
To be clear, you CAN use key-switching if you want, you just don't have to. Obviously you need it for things like pizzicato.

How did they do it? Well they offered it originally as a stripped down model with very limited articulations. And the idea was that it would gradually be improved over time with more and more functionality. All owners get the upgrades for the price of original purchase. This chart shows how it works. It began with a pre-order price, when they didn't even have a product. After that, whatever you pay, you get all future expansions for free, while the base price rises as the product gets better.
It's a leap of faith because it has taken a long time for them to get to the first expansion. It was supposed to come out by the end of November, and it is only beginning to roll out to owners today. I should get mine by the end of the week.
I'm passing this on because the original price of 149 euros will still be available until March 20th.
Here's a video with features from the new expansion. As you can see, there are a lot more articulations.
For those of you who are curious about this, there are a lot more YouTube videos and a long thread on this on VI:Control

They have already released their first version of a Bohemian Cello. They have limited edition freebies of the Violin and Cello if you want to check them out. Eventually they will release a Viola and Bass in their Soul Capture series.

I also own this and was not sure about the future but the expansion 1 is outstanding i think.
I now think about to buy the cello as well even when i have already the Blakus Cello from Embertone and my absolute favourite solo instrument Emotional Cello.
But i like the new approach of the "virtual performer".
It was a bit limited first but this expansion is awesome and expansion 2 and 3 to be followed for free if you own it already. Absolutly worth the price, especially if you also own Falcon.
For those of you who don't know what @Cib is referring to about Falcon, Virharmonic instruments don't play inside Kontakt like most Virtual Instruments but rather UVI's workstation. So you can run it in the free UVI Workstation as I do, or the UVI paid instrument, Falcon, which gives you access to a ton of FX and other capabilities.
I should also mentiona that Bohemian Violin requires iLok, although not a dongle, as I know that iLok makes a lot of people upset. I've never had any problems with it.
Oh, so excited; hopes dashed...
double post.
