From Mini 2 to Air 2 a step up?
The price of a Pro looks a bit rich to me and I have a laptop for heavy lifting, so I'm considering an Air 2. However, benchmarks don't show massive gains so I'm in 2 minds about it.
I'm mostly working with Auria these days ... For people who have gone from a Mini 2 or an Air 1 to an Air 2 what do you reckon? A major step up, or just a couple of notches up?

You would be going from a dual core A7 to a triple core A8, and from 1GB of RAM to 2GB, so I think you will see a fairly substantial difference, especially in Auria, which is really power-hungy.
Interestingly, the screen may seem like a downgrade. The 9.7 has the same resolution, which means a lower pixel density.
Everything else will definitely be a noticeable upgrade. I agree Auria will likely perform a lot better

i believe the mini 2 is called the retina mini.
Thanks for the information guys. The benchmarks are interesting but don't tell me anything about real world performace with music apps. I'm most interested in knowing what peoples actual experiences are.
I use these two models in my setup. I can run probably 5-10x the amount of apps on Air2 than on Mini2 (depending on the nature of the apps in use).
One thing to bear in mind is that there are rumours of an iPad announcement this month, might not be the best time to be buying right now....
Wow. Good to know.
Yes. I'm counting on it. I'm thinking of getting the Air 2 at a discounted price if a new model comes on sale.
I made the experience, that the Geekbench4-Benchmarks (for "multi-core") offer a really precise and realistic prediction of the real outcome.
In my personal experience the difference between iPad Air 1 and iPhone 4 s is about factor 3 or 4. This meets the Geekbench 4 measurements.
Sorry, that i have to disappoint you.
defintely a step up.I had the mini 2 before and replaced it with the Air 2.Auria Pro power user here as well .
The jump from 1 to 2 GB ram alone is a HUGE difference. You can have a lot more apps open at once (they don't get kicked out of ram as fast as in 1 Gb devices)and WAY more tabs open in safari etc.Makes everything much more fluid.
Good news. Thanks.
I am super curious how much Mini Pro will be if the rumours of such a thing are true.
499 Dollar
I sure hope they drop a Mini Pro. Mini size with 3-4 gb ram and a faster processor + apple pencil would be so good
