Tough to say because you're stuck at iOS 8 and most apps these days have greater requirements. It might make more sense to get a Windows tablet or laptop and start with a free DAW/plug-ins.
I am running 9.3.2 on an iPad 2 with little to no problem.
I stand corrected.
The iPad 2 is slow as molasses on iOS 9 versus how it ran on previous versions of iOS. Without knowing what you'd like to do musically with the iPad, it's hard to say how well an iPad 2 might meet your needs.
But i remember it runs Alchemy (still the most complex sounding synth) pretty well.
Not sure if the latest OS or synths needs more cpu.
Too less RAM and no retina was the major problem for me with the iPad 2 (which was my first iPad, the Air 1 was my last but wasn't that much better in real life performence).
an iPad2 is underpowered for today's music apps due to it's CPU.
A7 is the entry CPU for any reasonable use, seriously.
If you're just about (ultra low budget) music production and less portability an old Pro Tools TDM system might apply.![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
Shure it's old, but Grammy records have been mixed on that stuff
I once got one for curiosity sake for $200, 2 DSP cards and and 8 channel interface. The software is considered 'abundonware' and can be downloaded from a couple of places.
Sorry to hear about having financial issues... Been there as well.
I would not suggest going back for a cheap iPad 2 ...
However, Apple is still selling 32GB iPad Mini 2's for US$269. ( and that price could drop a fraction soon if new iPads are coming in March ) Much better hardware specs .. and the fact that it is still being sold will indicate Apple ( and devs ) will continue to support it for a least a couple of more years.
I have been using this model as my primary iOS music making device for a couple of years.. and it is still handling just about any thing I can throw at it -- including some semi-complicated AUM setups. The only thing I cannot really run well unless I use it standalone is the Model15..
Bear in mind that Mini 2 will come with GarageBand ... and honestly that could be a great tool to have and keep you making music until you can get some funds to buy more Apps..
Much music apps are nowadays universal. If your eyes are still good you could try an iPhone 5S runs iOS 10 still well and 2nd hand it's cheap as dirt 16GB version go under $100
Ditto on the vote for the ipad mini 2. Once you get the ipad, then...........You said you had an ipad, you will be able to download all of the same music apps and IAP's you had before, so long as you use the same apple account. So.....Here's hoping you had some good music apps the first go round.
+1 for an iPad mini 2. Maybe a second hand or a refurbished .

I have my access to imaschine... I want to get beathawk thats my main focus
What sort of music do you want to make?
The only thing I really wanna run is beathawk! The korg electribe app and emaschine..... Will the iPad 2 run these?
Yes, but there's probably going to be a BeatHawk update next week, and if you're talking about iMaschine, I know the original one worked, but I have no experience with iMaschine 2 on an iPad 2. Nothing in the iTunes description suggests you would have problems with iMaschine 2, though.
