Apps that will stop working in later versions of iOS

I've downloaded the public beta of iOS 10.3 which has a useful feature of alerting you to the apps that will stop working in the later versions of iOS. So I installed every music app I've downloaded over the last 6 years to see what is on "the list". Here is that screen shot attached. I'm sorry to see NanoStudio on the list, but not surprised. One or two others I will be sad to loose, and the rest I never really used. When I have time I will do some testing about IAA and AB.

  • This list is misleading since some developers are still working on updates for their apps. And I doubt that many of these devs even know about the new policy of blocking 32 bit apps, so they'll act once users complain. Chin up.

  • I understand that - just thought it might be "helpful" to bring it out in the open. Less unpleasant surprises and all that.

A list would indeed be useful. Especially in terms of AB-compatible apps which haven’t been updated in a while. Maybe devs will wake up in time, but chances are that there are some things that folks still use which won’t make the switch.

    Thankfully, Bebot is safe.

That list it's not misleading at all. At the top of the page there's some text explaining the situation and urging people to contact developers if there's no update available or planned. (Something like that)

Any developer that doesn't know about this probably moved on and doesn't care. So maybe people knowing some of their apps will not work on the future and getting them to contact developers might help.

  • I'm not saying that @kitejan was misleading. It's just that I know some apps on that list are currently updated to 64 bit.

Sadly, it is confirmed that NS1 is going to remain on the list.

... because the developer is working on NS2.

....which is great and much looked forward to. But the loss of NS1 will be keenly felt. It's a pity it couldn't be updated to 64bit and live for a few more years. But that is the way of it :-)

  • I hope the flux fx crew gets their act together and get it 64 compliant. Its a crucial app for my live rig

  • It's an unfortunate fact of software, and in particular the economics of this particular market, where it's a tough go to survive, that there will be casualties. Happens on all platforms.

If Apple at some points decides only to support Swift as a dev language, and dump Objective-C, (no signs of that yet, but it's possible in the future,) there will be a massive wave of apps disappearing.

  • One thing I didn't see on the list. z3ta+ It's about the only app I think will remain on the list, because Cakewalk just doesn't give a shit and will let it rot. Other than that, I have no doubt a majority of those apps will be updated. At least Gadget is updated regularly for sketching out ideas and such.

  • To be clear : the list is only MY apps running on the beta of ios10.3. I don't own all the music apps!

We need to get @JohnnyGoodyear on the 10.3 beta to get a fuller picture of the situation. :D

  • I have a 'load' of apps but I never install beta versions of iOS due to bad experiences in the early days.
I do go full with all updates when they are officially released.

Some 'casualties'(even hardware) is to be expected but new apps will most likely arrive and be even better than the old...

I don't see apps as 'investments' but rather as 'commodities' that get replaced over time...

  • With my work I have access to some spare iPads - and I had previously signed up to the Apple beta program. There is no way I would stick a beta on my personal iPad!. I always wait a long time before installing major iOS updates.

z3ta+ is already 64 bit, so no worries about that one
