I have a dream...
if ios 7 is giving us inter app audio, does this mean garageband can be used in the input slot?
Comments
Lets get a little pool going.
I vote yes.
I'd love to see it but I'd be surprised.
I suspect that there may not be a need to have it in the IP slot, since inter-app audio may allow Garageband to accept input from any app which supports IAA. If AB supports it, then I imagine apps could live inside or outside AB.
I'm not a developer, so I could only speculate, but that being said.... I'm not getting my hopes up for any of that. "Inter-app audio" was on one of the slides for iOS6 too. You see where that went.
@Boone51 An absolute certainty it exists this time round.
Free your mind
There is no input slot
...and your arse will follow (Bootsy Collins)
Maybe input slot is the wrong term.
Maybe this web fingy is wrong.
But is it too much to ask??

In iOS 7, Inter-App Audio apps are known as either “nodes” or “hosts.” Essentially, any app capable of publishing an audio output stream is a node, while hosts connect and manage node applications. Some apps, like GarageBand, serve both roles, letting users record a synth sample from a node app or send a GarageBand guitar riff to different host like BeatMaker 2.
Sounds almost to good to be true.
I know Morris.Would be nice tho.
I'll keep my hopes up for the AB update (a sure bet).
Sebastian and Michael have not said much about the next AB update or iOS 7, except that they are working on it... and when they set to work on something their precedent says it will be good. Hmmm... Can't wait till 10 Sep
@Hmtx is Sep. 10th the iOS7 release date?
Oh, the rumors are going around that the next iPhone will be announced on September 10, so iOS 7 will likely be 'round there somewhere later in September.
Ahh, that makes sense! Thanks!
So if Audiobus supports inter app audio does that mean everything compatible with Audiobus will automatically support inter app audio without an update ?
While we are dreaming, I hope iOS 7 creates a built in app streaming interface that is so good it negates the value of Audiobus current features. Then Audiobus 2.0 can therefore focus on the other things we know they have considered in the past:
audio streaming over wi-fi
"it just works" MIDI management
inter-app preset configurations
That's the stuff of my dreams :-)
There are two things that would be absolutely great, and certainly within the realm of possibility. First would be a background audio toggle switch that would allow all music apps to play in the background. Maybe that is strictly in the developer's realm, but maybe there's a way to do this across the board. The second would be a general purpose app that simply records whatever sound the iOS device is producing. I know this exists in a sense for the jailbreak world, but it would be really nice for the rest of us.
