Any tips/thoughts to share from your educated 2nd grasp?

  • I've looked at it before, finally bought. I'll try and use it for devising lyrics. I always get the best ideas while out of the house, and this looks like it might help.

I keep current efforts in iTunes for just this kind of thing (listening in the car/gym), so I'm hoping to pull a song in and record hummed lyrical hooks over the top. Once lyrical "beat" is established, writing the actual words is easier for me. The drawing feature is actually quite handy for this, too. I like to put down little tic marks for syllables, in bunches for possible words.

Had a quick look around, and I think this will be pretty helpful. Everything works. The markers and loops are easy enough to work with. The buttons are a little fiddly on my small phone, but good enough.

One thing to note is that a shared project file doesn't send the audio, but seems to link to the source (iTunes, Dropbox), so if the file isn't present in the same place on the other device, it doesn't appear in the timeline. You can import the song as a new track and the markers and everything still line up from the missing track, so it's not too bad, but if you're collaborating with someone, it might be a good idea to start from a shared Dropbox folder, or make sure the song is in both users' iTunes first.

It is a bit too "social media" for my taste. There's a forced sign-up screen, but you can put in dummy info, no problem.

  • Well... let me get back to you.. there were a couple of things..
