Arp as AB3 MIDI Filter?

After trying TF8’s arpeggiator, been thinking about integrating arp apps in my setup. StepPolyArp sounds like a straightforward one and this SoundPrism Pro video shows a result really similar to a MIDI effect or filter (SPA gets noteins from SPP and spits back arpeggios).

Also, @Alexandernaut just released the iPad version of his Arpeggionome. Guessing that @JohannesD will have an arpeggiator in the MIDIflow filters he’ll be releasing.

As someone who plays a monodic instrument, my preference goes to chorders, especially those which create different chord types based on certain conditions (like rotating notes or at least diatonic chords). But arps can also serve a purpose, especially with complex patterns which can be reversed or randomized, as in TF8.

So… Does anyone have insight as to how these MIDI filters might work in AB3? Any significant difference from the way it works with StepPolyArp? Also, has anybody been able to use @Lppier TF8 as an arpeggiator for SoundPrism Pro? Might be doing something wrong but using TF8 as both MIDI in and out doesn’t work.

  • Step Poly Arp will be available as a MIDI filter in Audiobus 3. You just add it as a filter in a MIDI pipeline.

Wow... sounds great. Will their be a master scale filter. Would love to see round robin, note channel allocation. Like polymer for OSX

Thats really nice. Does it open like some plugin or as a separate app like normally?

  • There currently are no Audio Unit Extensions that can send MIDI, so MIDI filters are always full apps.

Yea, but i was thinking more like something that auria does with its plugins, not AU plugin. Or is it impossible to make plugins like that to work with midi as well?

  • Ok that's good news. Being able to save SPA and other midi apps into a setup has always been a problem. I guess all midi apps will have to be updated to work in the filter slot?

Very cool! So will ChordPolyPad also work the same way?

Really neat! Thanks for letting us know. It does make us even more anxious to get our hands on this precious app of yours. But it’s best to know what to expect.

It’s also the kind of thing which will entice me to get new apps. Does require some planning. Thankfully, SPA is a small download, so space won’t be an issue. Same with MIDIflow filters, most likely.
