How has the Ableton Link sync worked out? I'll add it to Dhalang's AB specification if it's working good. Also some minor updates coming soon.

Have not noticed any problems and works well. Another demo video still coming?

Also, I need to rewatch the Vector State Machine video... I think it's covered in video 6. But, now there's a Matrix State Machine too. Does that work exactly like the Vector State machine, or are there some notable differences? Does the Vector State Machine interface/interact with the Matrix State Machine? And what exactly does the Matrix Machine Link button do within the Vector State Machine screen?

    Looking forward to updates. :)

I'm just in the middle of moving to another apartment, so new video, manual & other stuff are now waiting for a better time.

Both state machines work similarly, except the matrix one does not have Gradual progression mode (interpolation between two states) and is always in Instant mode. Matrix Link in the Vector State Machine links the vector state changing under Matrix State Machine state changing; when toggled on, vector state changes instantly or starts to change gradually always when the matrix machine state changes. So matrix state machine is always the master one. Matrix Link is very useful when running both vector and matrix sequences simultaneously and changing their states in sync.

Thanks for the info and good luck with the move. :)

I really need to spend more time getting cozy with both state machines and experiment with using them linked together. Sounds potentially very powerful.

New updates to all versions. There was a bug in 2.9 ios version where AB did not work, but fixed in 3.0 that came out right afterwards.

    NEW:
    Synths:
    - Envelope modes for analog synth: Rising (old) and Diving (new).

Little more variety to synth sounds, now envelopes can also create negative
    movements.

    Sequencing:
    - Vector and Matrix views update from state machines changes (in Instant mode)
    - State machine state delay countdown shown also as number.
    - When a vector turns off on a state change, it sends note off message to it’s target synth.

Most work here, getting the sequence generators and state machine more useful for more traditional pattern-based music. I'll make a video this weekend to show how I use them.

    Other:
    - New engine sample rate: Amiga NTSC Frequency.

A fun thing to try out, the only way to achieve the original gritty Amiga dac sound.

    • New demo sample for sampler.

In Lite version only, now something different to experiment with

    FIXED:
    - Mixer settings load correctly when Ableton Link toggled on.
    - LFO2 frequency control now accessible in touchplay.
    - Vector state patterning improved. Now pattern-like states change very reliably.

Got my home office back on action and things are running like before. New videosynth beta also soon out to testers, now with audio input for parameter control and screen-to-audio synthesized output(!)

  • I hated Amiga owners when I could only afford an ST. Love iOS app devs that just chuck an Amiga-related feature in for fun decades later though, nice one.

  • Awesome! Haven't played with this one in awhile. Need to dive back in. Looking forward to the demo video for state machines. And really looking forward to videosynth! :)

  • @Hypertonal I admire (from afar!) your dedication to this app which I have opened a time or two, got confused by like a drunk donkey in the computer lab, and put back in the 'too hard' box for another day. I would like to make a fresh effort to understand how to use this; what video link would you recommend at this point in history to help me on my way?

  • here is the new video. For beginners, I would recommend watching the first tutorial video and the "Indian Jam" video. They both deal with the basics and then this new demo video shows how far the basics can go at this moment. No need to worry much about matrix and particle stuff at first, one can go very far with just standard piano roll and patterning vectors - actually just what I mainly use casually.

@Hypertonal I think I get most of the app (not completely, but getting there) Two questions though... so in the mixing screen with function selected, the automation when the 1/4, etc. (time signatures?) are used, controls when that instrument either goes solo, or mute on the next change of time signature selected?

Second question: Is there a way to use the Touch Play screen to control external synths? Or, use it's control mapping to use the x/y for controlling various parameters of external synths when driven by any of the vector/matrix/piano roll/particle sequencers?

It goes solo or mute at the next complete bar (4/1 for example), measure (1/1) or beat (1/4) etc.. for example if sequencer time is in the 8th measure, hitting Solo function with time (at 1/1), the track will turn solo at the beginning 9th measure.

Not currently, but this is a good idea for a feature to be added, maybe for the next update.

Some things I have already added to the next update:

    • Time shuffling for making the overall tempo more humanized.
    • Feed write skipping for Vector/Matrix/Particle sequencers (just like sync skip, but with Feed skip the sequencer writes to a Feed only at defined intervals)
