Fugue Machine Band in a Box

I'm sure the whiz kids around here have already caught up to this one, but I relay these tips for the simpletons amongst us. The recent Fugue Machine update has caused me renewed interest and I'm looking forward to AB3 to make it even easier to aim FM playheads at various MIDI destinations. Since the last time I played a bunch with FM, we've seen the release of two apps that I use a lot: Troublemaker and ReSlice.

I highly recommend pointing a playhead at a sliced up beat in ReSlice and another playhead at Troublemaker (set the octave down to -1 or -2 to get good bass tones). Point the other two at the synths of your choice; I am digging Mersenne today to get a real scooped melodic approach. Boom, band in a box. Try shifting the root note up and down (far right side of FM) and it should create interesting new beat options as different slices are triggered in ReSlice. Hours and hours of fun...

  • I might have to steal this idea, try it out, and make a quick video. I would give you credit for the idea it of course.

Please do--your vids always help me out. I need to get motivated to figure out how to make videos. :/

Have yet to find the time to play with the updated and amazing FM, but help me understand this new feature with the play heads if you don't mind? It was possible to send the playheads to different synth destinations before by defining send / receive MIDI channels in FM preferences and the receiving apps. Does this new feature bypass the need for defining specific channels per playhead? If so, can that still be done? Like if you wanted to send all playheads to Gadget with each playhead sending on a diff channel for instance. I hope that can still be done! :# Sorry for turning your post into an FM tech support inquiry. Just genuinely curious.

  • Ok so the play head going to the bass track, is it only playing mono notes or chords? I don't have this app yet.

    Mono notes.

  • So you play the keys and the app splits it up? Is it universal?

  • Hopefully @gmslayton makes a video. Easier to show than tell.

Yeah thanks man. In looked it up and it's only iPad.

  • I do wish FM was universal...
