Looping cherry lost...sorta

Just dusted off Loopy HD and it's finally starting to click. Jeez...that took long enough, but it was my fault, rather than the app's. I just never devoted the time needed.

It's the place where Link finally made me suitably grateful. Even something like Figure can provide unreasonable amounts of fun...

Was that a back handed sneer in the direction of Figure?

No. Apologies if it sounded that way. More my own lack of skill. I have found Figure (or my ability to express myself on it) to be one-paced/samey. Probably because I don't 'play live'. But with the ability to record easily into Loopy, one after another after another, and tweak on the fly while recording, has helped me get past the limitation of the three tracks, especially the one lead. My problem now is gorging too much (as ever).

Funny you mention that because recently I've come to accept the 3 tracks and have been having a lot of fun automating the shit out of everything. And turning the arp OFF. I do think I'll be looking to loopy soon though for layering.

I have been trying really hard in all areas to leave more space, get more minimal, but the Loopy drug is just driving me on. Layer on layer on layer. I'm not a jam-er, but I'm getting close, marmalade maybe.

Roger. My rule in Loopy is, once I get to three loops, one loop goes off if one goes on.

  • That's a great rule to follow. I over layer things all the time that's why I love apps with sensible limitations. Removes at least some of the temptation. It's also weird when you layer so many things and then listen back and realize you were hearing melodies that weren't even there. It was just your mind trying to make sense of the wall of noise.

  • Good point on over exuberance with the layers/loops. It seems too easy to go down that path when control and space are often better choices. Zen is a good thing.
