Newbie Question Re: Gadgets
About to hop on this Korg sale - is it better to buy the "gadgets" in Gadget or their standalone equivalenys and use them in Gadget (if that's possible)?
Thanks!
Comments
Most Gadgets are only available in the app. There are some that you get automatically when you buy the standalone equivalent (Module, iM1, Odyssei, iWAVESTATION)
I'd say if you want a Gadget or two now is the best time.
It's a fun environment to make music in, although a little "closed off" for some of the more dedicated tech-heads. Enjoy!
This half-off sale is a fantastic opportunity for you and others on the fence about Gadget! I still love Caustic, but now I love Gadget just a bit more given the audio track importing via Zurich!
So, IAP advice, you at least NEED Bilbao. This is the only drum machine gadget which allows you to use your own imported drum samples (and, as of the 3.0 update, directly from Audioshare rather than that sh*tty outdated Audiocopy nonsense). If you have a gigantic collection of drum samples and such in Audioshare, you need Bilbao.
Other than that, unless you tell me more about what genre(s) you're interested in producing and what your goals with Gadget are, I'm not sure how I can guide you. I own everything Gadget-related (the main app itself, the IAPs, and the Gadget-compatible stand-alone apps), so I'm pretty knowledgeable about most things (although admittedly, I'm still trying to wrap my brain around iWavestation/Milpitas and loving every moment).
So, are Madrid and Gladstone normally a tenner when full price?
Must admit I'm baulking even at the discount. Guess no-one is forcing me to buy them![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
Basically there are two ways to get new gadgets:
Some are only available as IAP (Bilbao, Abu Dhabi, Kamata, Gladstone, Madrid)
Others are only available by buying the stand alone apps (which will add them for free in Gadget):
iM1 - adds Darwin
iWavestation - adds Milpitas
Oddyssei - adds Lexington
Module - adds Salzburg, Alexandria, Firenze and Montreal (i think, or maybe just more sounds to some of them) as well as samples to Glasgow and others if you purchase the IAP in Module.
I recommend grabbing the ones you are interested in right away to take advantage of the sale. However Korg regularly have these 50% off sales, so you will probably be able to pick the rest up at a later sale (but that could be many months away).
Is this still true now that we have recife ? Recife is free in the gadget 3 update...does this now make Bilbao obsolete as an IAP ?
EDIT...No it doesn't, there is no user import into recife that i can see
You can't use your own samples in Recife, so Bilbao is not obsolete
Recife is a ROMpler - it only plays the built in sounds. I'm pretty sure you have it even without Bilbao as it's part of 3.0
Bilbao let's you build your own kits, using your own samples which is why it's pretty useful![ ](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
Cheers peeps, it did seem strange that they would give something for free that they were already charging for LOL
Nope, Recife is not the replacement for Bilbao. However, it has some pretty nice drum sounds in it and some nifty things like auto repeating, choke groups, and drum reversing. Some of the kicks are very quick and not too bass-heavy, perfect for triggering the sidechain effect.
Bilbao has Audioshare import now, so if you have a crapton of drum samples, you don't need to preload them into Gadget via iTunes nor do you have to use the far inferior POS Audiocopy app anymore (which I just recently deleted off of my iPad).![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
why were you guys not using DropBox for this?
It requires an internet connection if you forgot to download your sounds for offline usage.
The Dropbox app never used to have the ability to download files for offline viewing.
Audioshare is far superior for storing samples on the iPad.
cool, thanks! i've had Audioshare forever, don't think i've ever bothered to use it. i'll look into it more now.
I have a newbie question. How does Bilbao compare to Blocs Wave other than the obvious convenience of being a native gadget? Does Bilbao do anything that Blocs Wave doesn't?
Blocs timestreches and pitch shifts in key ie change from E minor to A minor. Bilbao doesn't time stretch - pitch shift yes - but it's just a value knob. Still Bilbao is worth it in Gadget. Oh and you can only import samples 5 secs in length to Bilbao.
No small matter. Well, it is, but etc etc.
Thanks for the info. What makes Bilbao worth it? Is it a matter of convenience or is there more to it?
well, you get alot of great sample drum kits for one with Bilboa. And I like using it to make my own kits via user sample imports.
Gotcha. Thanks again.
Be sure to check out how you can download sounds from Dropbox into Audioshare so you can further organise them there.
Yep, Audioshare has about the best folder organizing system you could ask for.
It's a matter of convenience, a matter of peace-of-mind from using a closed stable environment, a matter of using whatever drum samples (Kshmr Vol. 1 and 2) you feel like using in Gadget, a matter of new drum samples what come inside Bilbao, and a matter of completionism if nothing else.
Thanks to you, as well. I don't suppose you have a download link for those KSHMR packs? I did a quick search and they appear to be free, but the few links I've found don't look legit. The free download link on his SoundCloud just goes to Facebook.
Actually, they're available on Splice, although that one's a bit tricky given they utilize a monthly points system (like, $13.99=300 points for a month). These are the links...

I hope this helps.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
