iPad Mini2 Owners - Recent Battery Issues?

Mine's run flawlessly (in performance and in battery life) since I bought it, when it was almost new. Just recently, it's been 'giving me some shit' - specifically related to battery life. Discharges on it's own overnight and sometimes displays "not charging" when plugged in with a normal iPhone charger or secondary iConnectivity input (should charge an iPad Mini fine).

I've recently (by cooincidence) relegated this device to just hosting Audiobus Remote on separate power while my iPhone SE hosts Animoog, so it's not a major issue to me.. But The Apple-Conspiracy-Theorist in me is curious to hear whether anyone else is having such problems with this device?

  • No battery troubles with my mini 2 so far.

  • No issues to date. Mostly my Apple products hold up pretty well. My ipod classic is only just giving me battery issues now after almost 10 years. I don't tend to run them hard daily though, so experiences may vary.

  • No issues with mine ... however if I have apps running with background audio enabled -- and do not quit out of them before finishing --- that will sometimes drain the battery. I usually force quit any app that still shows the red status bar when done with a session ..

Having said that... Gadget 3 is very greedy.

Have a strict routine of getting rid of all active tasks at the start and end of every session and leaving in Airplane mode. Has been happening specifically when there's nothing active - even when the previous session was just MS word or some other app that shouldn't cause passive drain.

Have used this iPad pretty hard for a long time, maybe it's just passed a threshold of degradation. Very rapid onset though!

  • Bought a cheap 2m charging cable, which of course did not work properly with my Air2. It worked OK though with my Mini2 for a long time. Then suddenly one day the Mini2 was suddenly down to 5% efter a couple,of hours, and it refused to charge with anything, and I thought it was dead, or at least he battery was. I did all the usual restarts, hot and cold, nothing worked. I left it for couple of days, and I thought i would give a last try, before delivering the Mini for a battery change, so I gave it a shot with my Air2 charger and the original short cable and bing. After about 10 minutes it had gained about 10% and all looked good. And it has been ever since. I have of course binned the cheap cable...
Perhaps the chock of being discharged completely did the trick. I don't know, as well as I have no idea as to what caused the problem initially. So of course I don't know if you can use the anecdote for anything, other than give you a bit hope...

  • Can't back you up on this one but I still think Apple sees everything and they are monitoring this thread right now, I would be careful they Probably know your address by now...
    And they are not happy...

It hit zero overnight last night and today I charged it with an iPad power block (have only ever charged it with official chargers/cables or iConnectivity cables). Let's see if that full decharge/recharge will shock it back into health!

  • My Mini2 is still keeping its charge although probably not as long as it did in the innitial years.

Fine here. I've always used the charger and cable that came with the Mini 2.

This article seems to indicate there could be a problem with charging an iPhone with an iPad charger for multiple rechargings over a long period, but doesn't say anything about the reverse.
