Lets all follow each other on Twitter (& interact with each other too!!?)

Occasionally I make these threads with the vision of keeping developing the community and interaction inside this niche. They usually pitifully go down in flames (cynical bastards!) but you've not yet managed to sap all the enthusiasm from my soul, so here's another.

Who uses (/tries to use) Twitter actively?
Let's follow each other and get some discussion going between us (that's the important part).

Share your own or click follow on mine and I'll follow you back!

  • Does the forum not work for you?

  • I'm the same ID on twitter

  • Well I bought in. The AB forum is pretty much my favorite iOS music community destination but all the blogs (Music App Blog, iPad Music Blog, PalmSounds, etc.) & Facebook group are great too.

This is an information exchange. You give some, you take some. If Twitter can facilitate some of that, great.

If not we can giggle at the members following Justin Beiber and the FleshLight Company...

  • I'm adverse to this because on a forum everyone gets to spread and share the knowledge whereas if there is a select group of people the know-how is trapped there.

    Plus I hate Twitter ... I don't have a Facebook account either.

I'm old and grumpy, get off my yard!

  • I use Facebook to keep intouch with old friends. I use here to gain and share musical ideas. I have never used Twitter.

Bearing that in mind, tell me:

    A. how using Twitter would help us communicate ?
    B. would using Twitter help grow the iOS musical community ?
    C. are there any obvious negatives to using Twitter ?
    D. are old and grumpy people like myself and many on here using Twitter beyond just shouting out abuse in the style of a certain countries president ?

  • Psycho the rapist.

  • I only use twitter to yell at the Auxy devs, sorry.

But in all seriousness, I have one, I just barely ever use it cause twitter just isn't really my thing. Sometimes I'll read other people's tweets.

  • I'm not on Facebook because they seem big and corporate and I blame the 2007 recession on the introduction of Facebook to the masses (originally it was educational email accounts only). Plus, their logo is blue - I dont' trust things with blue corporate identity - they probably have a HR department that wants to tell me off.

But I'm conflicted now - Facebook is doing something quite interesting with VR, and I probably need an account with them to do anything useful with their technological developments. Or, just stick to google's equivalent efforts, which I'm happier with anyway.

With twitter, I tend to regard it as a write only medium, mostly useful these days to remind people who might have just bought a HP printer and want to sign up for the Instant Ink thing, that if they use my refer a fiend code they get an extra month free (and so do I) (and I must say I'm quite happy with instant ink actually) (but enough of the promotion, if you want to do it, look through my twitter back catalogue).

  • @rulesofblazon on twitter, it's 99% politics (two-thirds US, one-third Texas) and i get really, really mean. not worth following unless yer into that shit. but if you are...

  • Don't have FB, don't have twitter... I like it here :)

Just living up to the (cynical bastards!) moniker...and glad to hear the following

but you've not yet managed to sap all the enthusiasm from my soul

    :D

  • Interesting approach. Been using Twitter rather extensively for the past 10 years. Hasn’t been very effective at generating a true sense of belonging, but it’s quite useful as a way to connect people and ideas with one another.
For some reason, this forum has been a part of my daily life over the past several weeks. Can feel something close to a mutual understand despite/through the ribbing.

Could imagine how some contacts across networks could help.

One way to do this could be to put our Twitter usernames in our profiles. But it sounds like this forum doesn’t allow for a fullfledged profile.

Did follow @OscarSouth with some of my accounts. Interesting that there’s more than one ethnographer on this forum. Next thing you know, we’ll start talking about gamelan and ethnopoetics.

I love the iOS music ecosystem on Twitter.

I believe I have the most extensive Twitter lists for iOS music:

    https://mobile.twitter.com/originalDJB/lists

Check out my lists for iOS Music makers, VIPs, apps, developers, and of course "Total iOS Music," which looks great on flipboard. Plus a few more.

Please follow me on twitter. I try to keep it iOS music only:

  • "Tweetdeck"

    Find anything.

  • In fact, I think it's good policy to follow each other in all social media, besides this forum (which is the hub, the politburo of iOS musicianship, if you allow me the metaphor). That would include Youtube, Instagram, Twitter etc. That way, the iOS musician community would perhaps make more noise, more waves (and forgive me the pun).

    Yeah!! You get it!!
The version of this thread about following each other's Facebook pages flopped big time, but if you have a Facebook page too then post up the link.
    Mine is http://www.facebook.com/oscarsouthbass

Thanks for the participation here everyone. Very good to get connected out there in the big wide twitter!

As for the few negative comments here: There's a time and a place for this kind of vaguely directed, ambiguous animosity.. and it's called Twitter!!
    (apologies, just couldn't resist)

As to chime in about social media in general. I also don't use a Facebook account (although a page is useful). I find that the Facebook page and Twitter account are a good combo for getting your voice and creations out there open to interaction, without getting swallowed by the oblivion machine.

Just followed you. My username is @pisadaan.

  • I keep my friends and family on Facebook, and I try not to use it. I keep Twitter for iOS (certain devs and review sites), and a few select techno gods (Surgeon, Cari Lekebusch and a few others.) There isn't really any reason to follow me, but since OscarSouth and Johnny Goodyear have already found and followed me, if anyone else is interested, I'm @gsm909

  • On Twitter (more work related) but prefer Instagram. On both as @techcanty

  • I'm on mastodon too, and if you are, here's a bridge to see who you know on twitter who is also on mastodon:
    https://mastodon-bridge.herokuapp.com/friends

I looked into that but it said no more sign ups or some such

  • Well I've been setting up a new Twitter account, along with most of my social media accounts, to be able to separate my music-self from my other-self, so now you can find me here: https://twitter.com/ayepadofficial as well as here of course https://ayepad.com (where I also have started a set of articles on what steps I've taken to set up this new "artist" on various services over here: https://ayepad.com/posts/social-media-for-musicians/)

I've been moving platforms and servers though, so I spent last week updating old posts and will soon (during next week) be on track with new posts too. :)
