AC Sabre 1.1.0 with AB3 Support

Yet another approved update with support for AB3.

Also interesting that it automatically advertises its Bluetooth. Been using it with Bluetooth MIDI apps and that “discovery” process was a bit of a chore (though it worked better than most other Bluetooth connections).

It might not be for everyone but it’s a pretty nifty controller for those of us who aren’t keyboardists. And the way to associate specific gestures to MIDI Learn is pretty useful.

What's New

  • Support for Audiobus 3 (coming soon)!
  • Automatic Bluetooth advertising (no more tedious steps enable it!)
  • Zero-tap, auto-connection to iPad via new upcoming "AC Central" app!
  • Audiobus state saving both locally and to iPad via AC Central
  • Hands free mode now works when AC Sabre is in background
  • A few bits of housecleaning...

Comments

  • I love the idea of this app. The reality hasn't quite caught up but I remain hopeful...

  • One question: has the pitch to midi note orientation been fixed? Previously only yaw worked for notes. It was a bug

Good question. Hadn’t tried it. But it does sound like setting “pluck” to come from the pitch gesture instead of yaw doesn’t make a difference. You still pluck notes by “yawing”. Or do you need to “unlearn” any MIDI CC you’ve assigned to the pitch gesture?

(Reading your question, at first, thought it was about “pitch to MIDI”, as in ThumbJam. ;) )

It doesn't make a difference cause it's still messed up. youre supposed to be able to pluck notes with the pitch gesture and the dev said he would fix it but apparently has not. It would be really nice if this would work as I'm not a fan of waving my arm side to side wildly and would rather just tilt it gently.

    ’Figures.
Been using pitch and roll to control filters or similar, but it’d make sense to use pitch for notes. Not sure if the display would follow, though.
And it’s sad that Hari hasn’t fixed this, as it’s an actual bug and not a wishlist item. Maybe it’s trickier to solve than he thought.

Curious about his further plans. He teases them out in the release notes (“AC Central”), but it’s kind of unclear how that’ll work. Like a remote?

  • Hari never fixed his first attempt at a phone based controller either.

Wow. Thanks for this! Provides context.
Still enjoying AC Sabre for what it is, but won’t expect him to fix what needs to be fixed.
And, honestly, it’s easy to relate to this. Just like many of us spend more time having fun with our toys than with producing and refining high-quality music, there are developers out there who prefer playing with whacky ideas than doing the tedious work of maintaining and supporting their apps. Unfortunate for those of us who end up relying on these things but it’s kind of understandable.
