Gadget on iPhone 5c
Hi all,
My daughter turns 11 on Monday and we have got her an iPhone 5c....she is currently big on learning the keyboard and is using my LPK 25 on her laptop and doing very well
Can anyone give me feedback on how well Gadget runs on a 5c as I would like to get that for her also so she can start to learn about production as well as playing,
Thanks
Comments
I have a iPhone SE, obviously runs smooth on that.
But personally find the screen too small to do a lot in Gadget (or most other music apps for that matter).
Perhaps let her try the free LE version of Gadget first, to see how that runs and if she likes it.
Ahhh yes....good idea, I had forgotten about the LE version...cheers![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
If you own Gadget yourself, wouldn't she get it for free if you add her as family?
Hmmmm, another good point....up to now I've been the sole apple user so never looked into the family thing....thanks
You guys will have just helped make a little girl very happy![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
All I need to do now is get her to not just learn Ed Sheeran songs (not that there's anything wrong with Ed) and start trying to make some Heavy Dub and Thrash Metal also![:D :D](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)
Just be careful not too go too heavy too soon. These tastes need to be acquired.
This is very true, she's already shown interest in AC-DC and she says she likes what I do which is mainly dub (although that might be flattery so that i let her play
) so the signs are good ![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
Pretty sure you could also just login w/your own Apple ID and install that way as well. There used to be a limit on how many devices you can install on..but I think that was relaxed a bit . The family sharing piece -- that would require an Apple ID for her ( maybe she has one already ) . Have also heard IAP's may not carry over in a Family Sharing setup too ..
This, you still get at least five. I "gifted" several apps to a friend a while back who was interested in getting started in iOS. Even if you log out when done, the apps and IAPs are fully functional. You will have to enter your account password again for updates though.
Screw ethics in situations like these
I'm not sure if she's 11 years old will be able to get its own Apple ID.
What I did when my son was under 18, is to share my AppleID (you can install your apps at least up to 5 different devices signed with the same Apple ID), login, install and logout.
And to be sure, set Restrictions=On in Settings, al least the IAP.
Now, he's got its own AppleID, but he keeps my apps installed, and I only needs to login on his iPad when some of my apps need update.
Family Sharing1 allows all the Apple IDs you add to your family to download each others purchased apps. BUT not IAPs. So Gadget yes. But Bilbao, Abu Dhabi, Gladstone, Madrid, and Kamata? NO
Yet another reason why IAPs for features and add-ons suck. However, since Module, iM1, ARP ODYSSEi, and iWAVESTATION are sold as separate apps, this means their respective gadgets: Salzburg, Montreal, Alexandria, Firenze, Glasgow, Darwin2, Lexington3, and Milpitas will be usable by Family Sharing members. BUT, again, not those apps IAPs ![:( :(](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/frowning.png)
@fjcblanco points out another way you could share the apps to a family member. Since Family Sharing uses a shared credit card the restrictions issue is more or less the same, except that if they don't have their own Apple ID they can't have their own credits. You could setup their device with their own Apple ID, and then use your Apple ID on a one-off basis to install apps from your account and the IAPs for that app will be usable. BUT as @fjcblanco points out apps installed with your account will need to have your account's password entered to be updated. This works regardless of setting up Family Sharing or not.
Also bear in mind that all Family Sharing members will use the primary account's credit card for purchases. I think the primary account must have a credit card too. Any Apple ID that has credits will use those first though. ↩︎
Since iM1 is iPad only there is some extra hoopla you need to go through to get Darwin on Gadget for iPhone. https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/articles/207993643-Remote-Install-Instruction That states you need to have the same iCloud account on both devices. So difficult to use with Family Sharing if they don't have their own iPad (you could probably switch iCloud accounts on one iPad, but haven't tried) I can confirm using an iPad 3 to install Darwin to an iPhone 6s Plus on a decent WiFi connection. Not only was it quite fiddly to get started (had to swipe up and restart Gadget on both a couple times to get Darwin to show on the iPhone Gadget list before I could start the remote install), but it was extremely slow to transfer (seriously, have your charger handy, it took over 2.5 hours, yet the storage use of Gadget went down a little, makes no sense). Really wish iM1 was universal! ↩︎
ARP ODYSSEi appears to be 64bit only, so no way to use Lexington on an iPhone 5C, iPad mini, iPad 4, or older device. ↩︎
Thanks everyone for all the input and info.....most appreciated![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
For songwriting and learning music I would recommend GarageBand over Gadget. GarageBand is also better adapted for the 5s screen than Gadget so get both!
I agree, but, as she is 11 she has other things that make app choice important...her favourite colour is Blue.![:D :D](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)
Medly is blue. Isn't gadget a bit complex for an 11 year old?
I don't have Medly, already have Gadget and Garageband, I think I'd ideally have her learn Cubasis as Cubase/Nuendo are standards used in many studios which would put her in a good place if that is what she wanted to do with her future career, but alas it doesn't run on iPhone.
Good selling point for Korg: "new and improved and also comes in the color blue!"
Well, it worked for pink for a very long time, many a time my other half wanted a pink stereo or a pink toaster, and invariably because it was pink it was £10 more expensive![:| :|](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/neutral.png)
