Love this piano !!!
I like it too , but I never, ever use it.
Thanks for the tip!
I love the apps, but they need to have AU extensions!
Both of ikMultiMedia's keyboard apps, iGrand Piano & iLectric Electric Piano, are on sale for $9.99 (from $19.99) The two IAP extension packs available for each app are on sale too for $4.99 (from $9.99).
I have both, have for a long time, and getting them with all IAP for the price each app is normally is a really good deal.
I dig these but I'm not sure if buying the IAP's after owning these awhile is worth it. If you're buying it new then to me $20 for everything is cool. I just don't know if 10 more presets is worth another $10 for existing owners.
Agree with this. However, I am a sucker for the iLectric Dark Tines 1 preset (and let's be honest, that's what these 'keyboards' are). Funny how some apps or IAPs are worth it (to me) just for one thing, if nothing else, without which my setup wouldn't feel complete...(Actopia in Alchemy for example)....
I like the IAP's. If only they would make the apps AU compatible.
They are not only presets though, the IAP also add actual new instruments (in iGrand, for example, the lovely Yamaha Grand).
Now with all these IAP, and every variation displayed as instrument, I sometimes think I'd love to swipe left and right for actual new instrument and then up and down for variations of that instrument ...
This is a great idea, but my guess is that the IK marketing folks probably wouldn't be too keen on it.
Yes and yes.
Well I bit on the iGrand IAP's. I always wanted the saloon & tack pianos and the 7' Grand.
@JohnnyGoodyear is pretty much spot on re: the 'preset' nature of the IAP. Both sets I went through don't sound like obvious new samples per se but I think Drum Session has shown just how much EQing & filtering can alter a sound to seem completely different.
The saloon piano is okay, like most barrelhouse MIDI pianos I've heard it sounds heavily chorused to provide the effect, same as the tack piano sounds like a harpsichord/piano blend rather than an actual sampled tack piano.
Not that they aren't usable at all, in a track both will sound very cool. The other pianos sound very good, a few of the Baby Grand's especially.
I'm curious which piano is the Yamaha Grand @nick was referring to?
Here's a video review of iGrand, with a breakdown of which sample sets belong to which presets:
(There is a list in the video's comment area, but the review itself is worthwhile as well)
Excellent brother, thanks for the tip off. I compared the ikMultimedia Pianos to @DerekBuddemeyer's excellent Drum Session in the way that they both take a sample library of relatively small size and work magic with them through EQ, timbre voicings, etc.
That they got dozens of different Piano sounds out of just 4 sampled pianos is amazing. The review said every sample wasn't chromatic but I can't hear any major chipmunking going down. Plus there's only a few velocity levels per key, yet played on an 88 key controller all of the pianos had excellent dynamics.
So I am happy I did get the IAP's on sale. I can't see it for iLectric however, with NeoSoul Keys and several apps with good EP presets I'm going to use restraint for a change and say I'm good.
