Fugue Machine 1.4.0 Beta

Hey all,

There's a new Fugue Machine beta for version 1.4.0. With this version comes a complete rewrite to Fugue Machine's file system (under the hood mostly). It's now more robust and much easier to backup and export your Pattern Libraries. I believe the current build is a solid release candidate, but thought it would be smart to do a beta — since pattern data is too important to mishandle.

If you're interested, please sign up here: http://eepurl.com/cI2AnX

So what's new...

First, the Backups Menu is now located inside the Pattern Menu ― much more convenient than before (buried in settings). To check it out, go to More Menu > Patterns > Backups. (The Backups button is in the lower right corner). In the Backups Menu, each Backup File now has a share button on the right side ― allowing you to send the Backup File to other devices with Airdrop, over email, and more.

Please test by exporting your patterns in various ways (AirDrop, email, etc.), and ensure there are no surprises.

If there happens to be a problem, please let me know. And in the very slim chance there is a significant issue where patterns are lost, please contact me before deleting the app and I will likely be able to help recover your files.

Many thanks,
Alexander

  • Good thinking!
Haven't used the app yet, so my test would be with fresh data. But it'd also help me get a better idea of the app after so many people suggested it.

  • @Enkerli Great, a fresh data experience is just as important :] And you should receive an invitation email any moment now, I just sent out first batch of invites. Thanks so much

  • Got my invite. I'm also new to this app and I've heard nothing but great things about it. Thank you

  • One of my favorite ever. Glad to hear about the update!

Hi Alexander, I really love Fugue Machine app, so thank you for making it. I have few suggestions tho. I think stage saving in audiobus doesnt work for tempo..it reset to default 120 bmp each time. It would be great to see random button for generating patterns and play heads. And it would be also great if user could choose a lengh of bars for each head.
    Regards

Cant wait for your new app you're working on. Could you share a hint about it?

  • Fantastic app. Thanks for the heads up.

  • Great app, glad to hear it's still being tweaked.

  • @Alexandernaut So far I have backed up and restored from dropbox, air drop, and iCloud. I deleted my pattern backup completely and restored it. Works like a charm. Very solid and I have full confidence that if I backup my fugues and save them to a safe place. I will be able to restore them with ease.

    Great update and continued support.

Still no Chromatic Scale Mode? I would also second a random button(maybe). Also maybe a way to copy playhead settings, not a big deal. Maybe like a click and hold the note icon and get a duplicate playhead option, kind of like the gadget copy bars.

Lastly, have you thought about adding midi control options to some of the parameters? Like being able to map the pitch knob of a particular playhead to a physical knob so you can change the pitch in real time. I have a korg NanoKontrol and it would be fun to map the first 4 sets of knobs and sliders and buttons to maybe play, stop, pitch and (octave or tempo).

Hmmm, I just tested this, but it's working fine on my end. Do you have Ableton Link enabled or Tempo Lock set?

Awesome, thanks for the rigorous test :] And thanks for the suggestions. With the latest two updates (1.3.0 and 1.4.0) the intent was maintenance and improving reliability, as well as add support for Audiobus 3. However, unless something there's something unexpected , I'm hoping the next one will be a little more exciting :]

  • Special discount for beta testers et al?

  • Universal?

  • Actually, the backup and restore feature is just impressive. Don't know what was used before but it literally doesn't miss a beat.
Already have a wishlist for 2.0, including more complex polyrhythms and flexible scales (not to mention an iPhone version, pretty please!). But it does live up to the hype.

Unfortunately, there is no mechanism to give discounts. I wish there was though

Not with this update, but hopefully one day...

Thanks for testing and ha, yeah, I wanted it to work so that you can change pattern banks as quickly as changing individual patterns :)

  • @Alexandernaut keep up the good work, we love this app!
    OT wish list stuff:
I'd appreciate a more direct way of accessing the settings, I'm constantly switching midi channels and ports, maybe a split between
    PATTERNS / SETTINGS
at the top of the menu would work?
    +1 for the randomisation too.

  • Is there a sneaky way to be able to use the file system to import a midi file?
