AB3 and Modstep

Modstep is available as an audio output in AB3, but it's not listed among the midi apps. Not sure I get it; modstep doesn't record audio. How does AB3 work with Modstep?

Modstep can output audio via AU and IAA if you host them in Modstep that's what you can route through AB3.
Yes would be really nice if you could choose Modstep midi tracks in AB3 midi, maybe they will add that sometime. Then it could work as midisteps currently does.

  • It was my understanding that the Modstep team didn't have time to implement MIDI out yet, but they wanted to make sure they can at least support background launching at launch day.

  • Ah! So you're saying there's a chance...

    Modstep does record audio...

Cool, I was hoping this too.

You're correct, of course. Mea culpa. But it only records audio stems of its mid tracks, unless I'm mistaken? You can't record audio from another app into Modstep. Or can you?

It advertises 8 audio outs in IAA and AB 2, (sending from whatever AU and IAA stuff its hosting including its onboard Synth and Sampler) but I don't have AB 3 yet so I'm not sure what that bad boy does with those outs...

  • We just uploaded the first beta of Modstep supporting Audiobus 3 MIDI and we hope to be able to release an update very soon!

For some reason I didn't get it in my TestFlight. D:

  • @gonekrazy3000 : still in review, should come soon!

  • Can I ask a dumb question?
When this midi implementation is done, will I be able to load Modstep in the AB3 midi page as an input and several apps (for example, Model 15, Animoog, Ruismaker) as outputs...and then in Modstep, Model 15, Animoog and Ruismaker will each have its own track?

  • Yes, this should work.

That's what I was hoping for all along.

The sad part is that if this works perfectly it just made a video I was working on useless. Oh well. Bring on the easier midi routing :D
