Is Beathawk's groove broken?

(Note: I did a search for "beathawk groove" and found nothing on the topic.)

Hi everybody. :) Okay, so here's the situation. Beathawk's groove isn't working for me. I have the latest version of Beathawk, running on iOS 10.21, no other apps running. I'm creating an idea that I'm really having a good time with, but when I go to add a little groove, it doesn't seem to work. I cranked the thing all the way up to 75% just to see if it works, and no dice. As you know, adding even the tiniest bit of groove can make a track go from mediocre to bangin in a matter of a second. Is this a bug in Beathawk, or am I doing something wrong? (I'm still relatively new to the app, so I'm just curious.) Thank you for any help you can offer me.

  • Just to rule out the obvious, do you have any notes/drums on the even 16th steps or only on the odd 8th steps? For shuffle, often only the timing of the 2nd, 4th, 6th..16th step are altered.

Of course mate. :) I've been producing for a long time and know that the even 16th notes are what get moved forward.

Then I'm already out of ideas (don't have BH) :D

  • Beathawks 'Groove/Swing' applies to notes when they are recorded.
It is not possible to apply 'Groove/Swing' already recorded notes which is kinda strange.

I think the idea behind this is to be able to do selective recording ie. some parts with groove/swing, some without.
(I would love to see a way to 'apply' Swing/Groove in the Grid-Editor).

Who knows what the next update will bring...

  • The groove function in Bh isn't global. It affects the input quantization and auto-trigger but not the notes already stored in patterns

  • Damn. That is really weird since, whether global or per pad, really should affect already recorded notes and the like. I can't think of any other app nor software package that does swing like that. xD

  • I dunno about its groove, but I just -finally- hooked up the Keystep to it and it's a pleasure playing the pads that way, much slinkier (technical term)....

  • I've been hem hawing over a nice pad controller for BeatHawk... I love playing the screen but it could b a hair more precise...
