How Are You Using AB3?
I would really love to see some examples. The Jakob Haq video of Fugue Machine is cool, but exists kind of in a vacuum. I'd like to see the end result in Cubasis, for instance.
Comments
It will be interesting when people start preset sharing their midi set ups etc
Yeah. Love The Haq, but that didn't really offer me much more than a self-evident postcard view. As mentioned elsewhere, I would like a serious blow by blow (Nurse). Maybe even someone to explain why this feels largely like AB as was with AB MIDI added and that's really cool, although there aren't that many apps yet in that column. Make no mistake, it's because I'm a midiot that I LOVE the fact that I don't have to figure out how to route things in Cubasis etc. But there is no doubt far more going on here, and many of us would benefit (and thus the app would benefit hugely) by a more nuts and bolts walk through.
Also it would be nice if someone compares the workflow with AUM
Here's a simple workflow that would have taken tons of time to set up before:
SoundPrism Link Edition in 3 different MIDI inputs. All routed to Cubasis as MIDI output.
Cubasis automagically creates MIDI tracks and you can use and sound generator in them (inside of cubasis).
That way you can play a multi-timbral SoundPrism and record each stream individually, then freeze the MIDI tracks in Cubasis und then do whatever you want with that.
My favorite so far is FugueMachine into StepPolyArp. The output of that is just insane.
Certainly things to have a poke around with there, but My favorite so far is FugueMachine into StepPolyArp. The output of that is just insane begs for a 'how to'? I know, so easy when you already know, right? Not getting the connection between Fugue and SPA, BUT am loving recording SPA midi so easily into Cubasis
Hope Auria gets an update soon, I getting Cubasis envy.
Have always used Cubasis as a midi machine more than anything else (especially since the piano roll was upgraded), but the beauty (for lugs like me) of AB3 is the simplicity of easily recording midi notes for later playing with. I've always found this sufficiently hit or miss that I rarely try to fiddle with it, too much of a flow killer/head throbber, but that game has changed now. Absolutely agree as regards seeing the same thing in Auria (@WaveMachineLabs)...
Yes, exactly. For those of us from the World of Sound (as opposed to the netherworld of midi), it's always a little momentarily confusing as to the difference between midi in and midi out is. And in the new AB3 design, to have Cubasis on the left-hand side of the flow and all the synth apps on the right — well, obviously, Cubasis is instructing Model 15 what to play. But it's a different visual metaphor than I'm accustomed to. Clearly this is my problem, but I just want you to know what you're up against.
An example.
I want to play a melody on Model 15 or this great beat I have in Elastic Drums. I want it all in Cubasis. To achieve this, I THINK this is what I do.
In the midi page, I load Cubasis in the input.
In the output: Model 15 ... and Elastic Drums? (For the life of me I can't completely get my head around why drums are such a special case in the netherworld of midi)
So in Cubasis, I should find a midi track loaded with Model 15, where I can write the midi with Cubasis's internal keyboard and piano roll. Or can i actually write from AB3's piano roll and have it record in Cubasis?
And, yeah, I really don't know what I'm going to find in the Elastic Drums track in Cubasis....
And for this, do I need midiflow or any of the midi filters?
