Covers Club - April 2017
What is the Covers Club?
It's a place where musicians come to give and receive feedback on their cover versions. Anyone is welcome, whatever their level of ability.
The spirit of the club is to contribute: if you submit a song for others to comment on, you should also have the courtesy to listen to everyone else's contributions and give as much feedback as possible. Posting a track and not listening and commenting on others is not cool.
The purpose of feedback is to be honest. Essentially you should give your truthful impressions of the song, whether good or bad. Negative feedback, if done in the right spirit and with courtesy, can be the most useful and can help the artist to grow and improve and correct their mistakes.
All submissions are welcome, don't hesitate if you want to contribute.
We ask that you only post one song per month in this thread - if you're lucky enough to be able to produce more, then please just submit your strongest material.

For all the Bruno Mars fans in the house:
Sounds great@richardyot! Reminds me of the soundtracks to a lot of the movies I watch!
Cheers!
Ordinary World. (The rehab)
This song has been a challenge. Took far too long learning/playing the damn thing, and then the vocals. Couldn't get them right, and still not. Got stuck in a creative rut and in desperation, i phoned a friend. His name is @Jocphone and he is a genius. More importantly, he is a wonderful, kind and caring human being. I sent a weak, insipid sounding track to him yesterday while he was busy at work. Received it back only hours later with power and purpose. He has a toolbox. He can do things that we can't. Thank you Joc, you are a diamond. Could go on and on about him and will do another time. He tells me that he didn't add backing vox to this. I am convinced he has.
The cringe value has increased over time. The way Tony Blackburn pronounces the name of this band is a classic. Over to you again ..... Tony. Wonder how Arnold is doing these days?![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Who is this guy?![ ](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
I would just like to go on record saying that none of the above is true. Bluey is his own brand of genius and the joy of this track is all in the performance.
I just turned the volume up a bit too much, as is my want.
This is my cover of How Deep Is Your Love in which I played piano using the Grand and Acoustic of Cubasis along with DJDJ to remix the vocals.
I did 1 take to remix the vocals and then 1 shot playing the piano. I actually transitioned into another widely known house song later in the song for fun. If anyone can actually hear what song that was as well.
Am one of his biggest, most dedicated. Haven't heard the original.... but this'll do quite nicely thank you boss. Picked a song with title that suits. We can count on you. Never miss a month in both Clubs. Best policy that I'm beginning to understand. Learn and try to improve ready for the next. Played your song that you sent early last year to completely appreciate/understand just how far you've come with your singing. The tone, clarity, confidence and feeling is wonderful to hear. Exquisite timing Richard, guitar and vocals. Think there could be an opportunity to slam a Ramones 1,2,3 etc, in the chorus, but then that would ruin the original. God forbid.![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
Pleasure to hear you, as always.
...... and then the angels drop by for the second time this month. Most welcome. Look, can i save my fingers for the pads, and copy my comments from S to COTMC please? Feel the same about this one. You operate at a different level sir, up in the heavens with the folk with wing. Beautiful. Inspiring. Thank you.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
@Bootsy great choice of song, I love the original and I did toy with the idea of learning it myself at some point last year, but the fingerpicking is two guitars playing together so it completely bamboozled me![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Anyway it's a great interpretation, a bit mellower than the original and the vocal and guitar playing are lovely. Your voice seems to fit with a wide range of material and always sounds great.
I'm guessing you come across this track from watching Boyhood, because you often say that you come across songs from soundtracks.
Nice mix, Digging the tune ✌️
@RustiK Don't think I've had the pleasure. This is Brilliant. When it kicked in i did think towards the future and a certain fellow over the other Club who, like you (1 shot, 1 take.. WHAT!) bangs out a similar vibe. You two together.... yum. This is seriously good my friend. Power, ache, space, feeling, all of it! How you've done all that vocal bending/twisting, stumps me HOW? That DJDJ app is on my list. Cheers. And now the piano as well, that's you, 1 take. Can't believe what I've just heard. Brilliant mate, brilliant. The talent on here is breathtaking....... Top shelf gear.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
I want to give you my sincerest gratitude and appreciation for recognizing my work.
IT MADE MY DAY
Thank you so much.
@Bootsy, I've been trying to come up with words to describe how I felt about your interpretation of that song, but there aren't any that do it justice. I love the song, and I love everything about your rendition of it. Hauntingly beautiful, inspiring beyond words, etc. You are immensely talented.
Wow! Just insanely beautiful. The guitars in the intro, incendiary! (I stole that one). Full disclosure wasn't really into Durin Durin too much back in the day, so I looked up the original and man you are one of a kind awesome! Then going back to your version again I was even more enamoured with what you do! Made me laugh at the end. Great artist!
Do you play everything?
Really cool @RustiK. Love the piano and the performance. Very cool what you do!
Thank you @Bluepunk. Save your fingers bud, your words have meant so much you have no idea! Between you, @richardyot, JG and all the amazing talented folks on this forum, it just feels good to be here and be heard. Cheers!
Thanks @richardyot, I know what your saying on the original guitar work. I tend to dumb em down to what works for me to play and sing these covers. I watch the tutorials on how to play it and when I try, my fingers just do what they want.
Definitely got this from Boyhood. What a great concept for a movie. Love Richard linklater! Even did a movie named after me. Been a good last few years for Bernie's!
Cheers!
Thanks so much@Joel75. I tried to do it justice. It's one of those songs that moved me the first time I heard it. Thanks for listening and your inspiring words.
Cheers!
Bootsy..... Thank You. As i shovel compo into the mixer and Big Ron is rubbing coarse grain sand into my skull,... I couldn't give a shit. I've been called an ARTIST. For that i send you one of my special cwtches. Two in fact. One is reserved for your angel.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Thanks! Saw your avi and literally grabbed my phone and took pic out window of one of my vehicles.........
Sweet! New beetle, how do you like it?
@Bluepunk a nice high-octane version of the Duhren Duhren (or is it Darren Darren?) original there, love the guitars and bass that drive it along.
Vocal is great, has lots of energy and spite, drifts out of tune in a couple of places but does so in style and in keeping with the feeling you're going for.
The drums are probably buried too far down in the mix, but that's because you secretly want to be a guitarist really, your own instrument clearly gives you a sense of shame. You know guitarists always have the prettiest girlfriends (or boyfriends). Mind you, I'm a little worried that you already know more chords than the average guitarist (I only ever bothered to learn five, which is two more than you really need). Anyway, turn those damn drums up![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Thank you. Yes, they are pretty, and accommodating. C#sus4 primed on Guitarism ready for next months delight. PM if you'd like to know finger placement.![:D :D](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)
