Will 32 bit Apple iOS devices be obsolete with iOS 11?
I can buy an iPhone 5 64GB cheap. But seeing earlier threads on this forum about Apple moving away for 32bits apps, my question is is it worth it for the future. I can see Apple just not allowing updates from developers as FB, which also means no Instagram and Twitter possible in the near furure. Can anybody shed some light on this. Thanks!

Apple's been notorious for dumping what they perceive as obsolete tech for a long time, well before they were a commercial tech giant. When they dropped floppy disks, the world soldiered on. Serial ports for printers, Firewire, etc. - the same. There are ways of connecting two iOS devices two each other, so my plan is to hang on to all those old 32bit apps, abandoned or deemed too costly to upgrade by the devs, on an older iOS device, and hook them up for use when needed.
I know Iconnect Audio allows for this. Don't have one yet, but would like to get one in the near-to mid future (along with one of those shiny, cheap iPad17s).
As for Twitter/Instagram or any other "big name," they'll have to update. Again, this is just how Apple rolls, definitely a holdover from the Steve Jobs era - keep up or get lost.
Okay so definite NO buy as I read this comment.
Depends how cheap cheap is really doesn't it. I'm still getting use out my iphone 4 as a kindle reader and iPod in the bedroom it can still run lots of older apps as well.
I would say don't bother with anything iOS 32bit. While you can buy older computer hardware and continue to buy older software to work with it, iOS is pretty much a closed garden. Unless you intend to use it in other ways to how Apple perceives, I would best avoid it.
Having older hardware is fine, as you can just lock it down and use it as is. That is not a problem for any off internet use mostly with older apps already installed. Trying to use a pre 64bit machine with any new apps though is going to get much more problematic soon, I believe.
Running a 5 here, and just because you can still run current apps on it doesn't mean it's a good idea. Many of them run super hot, draining the battery badly. Link is basically unusable. I turn it off immediately in any app that has it. That's just one example.
