See if app is ab3 ready
I was just womdering, i have a lot i mean alot of apps, is there a way to see in ab3 if an app is ab3 compatible ? Iam thinking about the midi connection part..
Comments
Korg apps are listed on that site, but they are not available as outputs in AB3, so I'm not sure how accurate that information is.
You can see which app is AB3 midi compatible (for sending and FX) if it appears in the midi input and midi FX slots. But most core midi apps appear in the midi output slot if they have a midi port (and they can receive midi). Although unsure why some are missing like the Korg apps...I think it's only the ones which use IAA midi appear in this list
If you choose the MIDI botton, you will see the (very few) apps that comply with AB3 MIDI.
If that is what youre looking for. Gadget does not go into the audio output slot - not in AB2 either.
Korg apps are not part of the list (yet). Please just click the link and see for yourself https://audiob.us/apps/capability/ab3
Yeah thelist ive seen that.. chordion womt go into the midi "slots"
Yes, because it only launches into the background (that's what AB 3 optimized means). If you want to see which apps are compatible with the new MIDI feature, then select 'MIDI' in the list.
Here's the link that does that: https://audiob.us/apps/midi/capability/ab3
There's currently a bug with that list in that it doesn't show the hundreds of apps that can be used in the MIDI output slot (every app that has an IAA instrument port that is registered in our database can be used there). But if you're looking for MIDI senders, then this is the list: https://audiob.us/apps/midi/input
And if you're looking for MIDI effects: https://audiob.us/apps/midi/filter
What I'm seeing is that some robust midi controllers (i.e. Genome) though not yet fully AB3 compatible, will work with the various instruments as before, and benefit from their previous (AB2) compatibility in that they can be added to an audio Input in the audio screen, and enjoy the full AB 3 panel in their own GUI, for start stop and of audio outputs etc. Midi fx aren't possible to add in the chain of course, but sequencing is all good...
It's going to take a few weeks for more MIDI controller apps to show up on the list. But so far most of the developers I've talked with are pretty enthusiastic about what Audiobus 3 does for MIDI.
Yeah barring unforeseen bugs, I pretty much see it as AB3 has all AB2 has to offer with all apps already AB2 compatible and then some more with those AB3 compatible. This is a good place to start, as those apps that already have taken the time to become AB2 compatible, are likely to at least get the Open in Background option at some point. Many will go further. Some new midi only apps are bound to join the fold eventually I believe.
To be honest, I think this app may do good things for midi app developers long term.
Personally I'm going to write off to the developers of:
MidiSequencer, Oscilab and BStep Pro, see if they have got AB3 plans
What's slightly disappointing is that an app has to be AB3 compatible to appear in the midi sender/input list. Ok so if it's to be saved in a setup then it would need to be AB3 compatible but if you could just add an apps midi port here then at least you could use it already.
Another way around this would be for @JohannesD to update midiflow standalone as AB3 compatible and then you could create your own midi sender port and use that in AB3 to route midi from anywhere outside of Audiobus. It feels slightly hobbled at the moment without this because there are probably many midi sending apps which will never become AB3 compatible.
Agreed. Something like this is bound to occur at some time. And why not by the master?
MidiSequencer works fine in AB3 - I had to make zero changes and all previous issues with Errors & sleeping are gone - great job AB Team! It's not AB3 midi though.
I was invited to the beta but just haven't had time to work in the new midi code due to the need to finish the new Quantum Sequencer app which replaces MS.
Rest assured I'm going to be looking at supporting AB3 midi soon - if I can and you may see some apps from me just for AB3 midi too...
Well I will be buying Quantum and hope to see you enter the AB3 midi field as and when you can I don't want to hijack the thread, but is there any pics up of Quantum anywhere yet?
hopefully soon - I've a lot of midi ideas!
I thought you would with the ones you have already put into MS
