Processing speed specs are just willy waving. Give it a couple of years and it'll be turgid and soporific, you'll wonder how you ever got anything done on it. Same as any computer.

    Moores law doesn't work anymore
Seams like intel is starting to hit the wall of can't make it much smaller anymore here.
It still seams to work for apples Ax chips
But it won't take much longer for them to hit the wall too.
Performance computing is all on the GPU now afaict

Waiting a 11 to drop on iPads. Fall? (Phone is on a10 now)
Not going to buy a yester yesteryears cpu
Hopefully they will come with 4gb of ram then I'm the first in the line to buy :D
This 0.3 times faster stuff isn't noticeable, imho

I wonder why apple doesn't put enough ram in stuff
The new MacBooks pro only has 8gb and there is nothing you can do about it.
I have 16gb of ram in my 5 year old mbp.
    Can't sell me that stuff.
    RAM costs close to nothing,
I bought those 16 gb for under 80 bucks.
But it has a stupid touch keyboard no one needs for 500 bucks more.
They are really after a different crowd now.
Forget about the pro in apple. :/
    /rant

If they already supported 4gb or more ram into all ios devices, nobody would have a reason to buy a new ios device for the next couple of years. Its pure marketing tactics to be sure you have a reason to buy a new device every 1/2 years.

    Money, money, money :)

  • I've said it before, anyone with an Air2 should go back to making music and forget about "upgrading" to the latest thing. There just isn't enough difference between versions anymore on both iPads and iPhones... skip a generation or two is just fine.

As for this willy-waggling, I have a new iPad and compared to my old one it is just wonderful. I can finally do all this stuff you blokes with the newer machines can do, and that is all that counts to me.

For many though it is not about Willy Waggling, it's about making informed choices. For some with and Air2 it's about which one to add as a second iPad. While the prices for the Air2 128gb and the new iPad are so similar in some countries, it makes sense to compare them.

Not always to choose the fastest processor or the best screen. Everyone will have different criteria for choosing which model suits them personally the best. It's about making an informed choice. So we listen, we read and then hopefully we make the choice best for ourselves. There is no wrong choice, unless you make it uninformed and wish you had not.

So while, there will always be those that are comparing for the wrong reasons, there are also genuine reasons to make the comparisons of these models whatever iPad you own.

Does the new one have the rotation bug? If not I'll swap this bloody Air 2 for one.

Have you updated to 10.3 yet? I get that rotate bug too, but I haven't noticed it since 10.3... yet. ;)

First time since the update....thought it was fixed :(

i know i asked you once about this but i was at ios 9 at this time and did not suffer from it.But now i'm on ios 10 and forgot what the rotation bug was...i just rotate my air 2 and...everything seems fine...?

Mine occasionally gets 'stuck', either in portrait or landscape mode and it no longer rotates. It hasn't done it for weeks, but just started up the iPad and it was stuck in portrait mode. Doesn't seem to affect everyone for some reason.

I hate it, I absolutely hate it, it turns the iPad into an unusable pile of shit. I wish the pillock responsible for buggering up the code in v10 would pull his finger out and fix what they've broken - never an issue in 9x.

It's like I have the sound cutting out bug with certain apps. It was much discussed at the release of the Air2 and seems to only affect the early batch of Air2 64 gb devices. It's pretty much not discussed now, but it's still an issue with some devices.

Ah right, that does happen occasionally but only if I haven't got headphones connected - I though it was feedback protection.

oh right, I might have that cutting out glitch on mine still happens sometimes in AUM, bugs me.

Regarding the rotation bug. Yes it's annoying but haven't had it for a while.
I think the easiest way out of it is to press the power button once to lock the ipad. Then when you press the home button it should come back the right way up.

RAM. These processors are pretty great. Extra RAM would help a lot.

Hell, I've been _perfectly _fine on my Air1. I'll definitely want the new Pro this fall though.

  • I just had a successful audition with a band (as a singer, and playing some keys). To celebrate (and because I sold all my sound engines, but not my controllers) I just upgraded from an iPad 2 to the new iPad and I must say it runs like a dream. Building my new rig from this. Now just waiting for my Yamaha Bluetooth MIDI dongle to arrive...

Nah that doesn't work for me, the only fix is a full reboot, though sometimes it just fixes itself and goes away.

Rotation bug has returned with a vengeance now, getting stuck every time I use the iPad. Pretty much makes the iPad unusable for music for me, as half my apps are stuck in portrait (e.g. AUM), and landscape only apps in landscape mode.

    Pain. In. The. Fucking. Arse.

Get your act together Apple, you lazy tossers.

I can't even use the menu item 'mark all viewed' on this forum as it's only visible in landscape mode.

I know it's a last resort, but have you considered a full factory reset?

  • Have you tried using the assistive touch top menu in the accessibility settings? You can lock the screen in place, rotate it when you want, launch pre sequenced touch gestures among other handy things?

I haven't tried that - I have an on-screen home button, so just added a rotate option. I'll see if that works next time it gets stuck - thanks for the suggestion!

  • The iPad pro performs like a core i5 MacBook Air. It's a worthy upgrade even if you have an Air 2. The new iPad, it seems, not as much.

Try using it naked outside the case for a while (the iPad, not you) (or, both, if you like). I'm starting to suspect that in the case of some cases, as the case may be, maybe the case magnets are overriding the rotation sensing. I rest my case.

Around the end of iOS 8, start of 9, I used to get so many things happening with my iPad. Just so many niggling little lock ups and crashes. It was all a shock to me, as up to that point everything seemed pretty smooth apart from waiting for apps to become ready for iOS 8 (which was my first iOS).

I decided after much taking mental notes of what was happening, that something had gone wrong with the updates somewhere, so I decided (with much grimacing, knashing of teeth and swearing Apple was the son of Microsoft) to restart and download everything from scratch.

While the sound cut out bug remained, all else has been pretty good for a decent amount of time (touch wood). Hopefully it may sort your bug out, or at least make your iPad more usable. Yeah, it's a pain, but I've had worse times with Windows lol

Yeah @MonzoPro , but did you get naked?

    Sorry brother, busting balls, lol.
I have an Air 2 and have dealt with that infuriating rotation bug too. Ever since I updated to 10.2.1 however the bug rarely acts up.

Have you updated up to version 10 +?

Hope you get some relief man...

My Air 1 crackles like crazy with any Audiobus usage that's moderate to heavy. It's not fit for purpose anymore - I could never play a live set where I had to switch between any apps.

  • Factory reset doesn't help with the rotation bug unfortunately. On the Apple Support Forums some people are saying it's related to the reduce motion setting in iOS, which does seem to lessen the chances of it occurring here when it's left off (default). I still get it once in awhile.

Part of me wonders if this is a hardware fault with the accelerometer since it seems to be so specific to just a couple devices.

Air 1/ iPad mini 2 are out of the game if you are not treating them like a raw egg.
Can't go live with them. And ab3 is screaming for stage use.

I still use my Mini2 live. I use it to host a second Sector instance and couple of extra AU midi controlled sound generators in the background, while keeping AB:Remote in the foreground.

Ok thanks, won't bother with the reset - strange how it's come on since v10 though, definitely seems to be stirred up by the update.

My iPad is getting stuck constantly now, every time I use it. It's never been this bad.

I still use it too, but it got really long in the tooth now.
Sometimes just random looking shit happens ...
It's really not up for the task anymore

So far ok for me (thankfully) but I'm constantly checking and testing my gear. Fingers crossed!

  • I doubt it's model related, because I know of people who have the same model as mine and they have the issue and I don't. I think it's just one of the many iOS bugs that happen given unknown sets of circumstances.
