In AB3: So, my other device is listed as a midi sender

Seems that I can use a sequencer loaded in AB3 on iPad to send channels of midi to receivers loaded in AB3 on iPhone...I'm sure it's been noted elsewhere on a thread, but I didn't see this mentioned in AB3 Help files. Please advise? (I haven't tried it, iPad battery flattened from hours of other AB3 experiments)

Anyone know anything about this feature?

  • @Sebastian?
(Ok it's 5am right now in your part of the EU, I think)

  • I had a quick try of this but couldn't get it to work. What's the correct workflow?

  • That's a bug. Sorry for that. We're going to have a look at this and fix it. I'm not sure if we want to support device-to-device MIDI because of all of the potential issues that come with it. But if we do it from Audiobus to Audiobus it should be fine. Anyway, lots of stuff to think about for me. Sorry for this!

  • I hope it does get supported because would be very useful :)

Thanks! No apologies needed, seriously. Keep up the good work.

Yeah, wow. This could be very cool.

Yeah I know. We just have to make sure we're not falling into the same traps that we've tried to avoid with our new MIDI system. Like sending and receiving notes at the same time, leading to double notes. That kind of stuff.

Got it. I'm glad you mentioned the double notes, etc because the lack of these kinds of issues with AB3 is a feature that you don't notice unless someone reminds you of the previous mess. I can't wait for more MIDI sender apps because hooking up MIDI in AB3 is just so painless.

Speaking of MIDI sender apps, I bet a few people would throw money your way if you offered the troublemaker sequencer as a standalone AB3 midi generator app (with the randomizer and variation feature), @brambos.

That's worth considering. I have yet to dive into the AB3 SDK (very busy atm) but if it makes MIDI output easier wrt managing destinations it could be a nice update to Troublemaker. Likely not even necessary to make it a new app.

    Indeed, love it!

But you should make it a new app in my opinion. So we can give your more money. I'd be all over a brambos midi sequencer

If you feel like you're accumulating too much money I'm sure we could work something out to help you with that problem.

    It's not a feature, it's a bug. We're the anti-Microsoft.

  • Device-to-device feature is something I was most excited about. I bought a second ipad (not just for this) but definitely inspired by this feature. Hope it works out.

  • Hi all,

I need to disappoint all, hoping that this is a bug. Its a feature. Audiobus does support Network sessions. So using these devices allows you to exchange MIDI with your Mac or other iOS devices.

    Best, Gabriel

Thanks, this is my fav unexpected feature - Since each Network Session has 16 available Channels - would it be possible for the GUI to show the channel number? It can get confusing when multiple Network Session instances are loaded to remember their respective channels.
