BM3 I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down

  • If they are working on a no-compromise DAW with elegant design and next level performance (and solid AU) then I'm willing to be patient. Cubasis and GarageBand are great though you can feel a deliberating holding back of power features. Auria has the power but not the elegance and performance I desire. So BM3 is the next great hope :D

In the meantime iOS music is still rocking...

  • I mentioned this thread to Mathieu so if He's not too busy He'll most likely shed some light on a thing or two :)

Strangely i don't really see them as direct competitors to Gadget and i think they will do just fine. They have a different appeal in my opinion. Also, again going against the current here, but i don't even think Gadget is the benchmark. Caustic beats it and it's developed by one guy but at the end of the day those are all in ones where as BM3 will be more like a full fledged daw right?

I see this posted often here. I believe they are direct competitors.
Contrary to what you see posted here, most people simply don't have time to learn all these apps. Maybe they have families; careers; social lives? I have bass guitar as a main instrument, for example. I adopted iOS production quickly because my career has me working out of town regularly; away from my bass rig. I stuck with Beatmaker 2 despite previously discussed issues simply because I knew it and was productive with it; it fit into my workflow. Like most people, I don't have time to learn Caustic, Cubasis, Nanostudio, Multitrack DAW, etc ...to compare and see which is most ideal for my workflow. I rely on this place to separate the wheat from the chaff so I can get on with the business of actually making music.
All that said, I read here about how people are using AUM, AB2, and Modstep, and all that is waaay beyond my comparatively simple approach to iOS production.

Right, but even just taking the 2 of us as an example it's clear we're wildly different yet we're probably both in their target demographic. I own pretty much all DAWs on iOS and while i can't claim to be an expert on all of them, i'd say i've got a decent handle on them. I also use Modstep, AUM, AB3, Midiflow etc. So i'd say it's hard to draw any conclusions about our demographic based on anecdotal evidence alone. I don't even know what kind of sales numbers we're talking about with music apps. Maybe we're an insignificant part of the demographics here, maybe we're a large part. I can't say for sure

At any rate my point was that Gadget and BM3 aren't directly comparable. Gadget is not a DAW. While it, finally, has some rudimentary audio features it's still a far cry away from what Auria can do. I expect BM3 to be much more of a DAW than Gadget, in which case they're not aiming for the all-in-one crowd (of which i'm also a part). Gadget has it's strengths but it certainly also has it weaknesses. If i was working mostly with audio, doing recordings and arranging them i would definitely not choose Gadget. Also, i think it's important to keep the n+1 rule in mind, where n is the number of music apps you own and n+1 is the number you need. I suspect this rule applies to a lot of musicians, iOS or not

  • What I need is a sampler that allows easy (see "lazy") chopping, like iMPCp, but STABLE.

BH2 doesn't satisfy, in that regard.

I wish Akai would take the name away from Retronyms, and hand it off to a developer that's interested in dedicating time to FIX it, and add some basic (overlooked) features, like 100% compatibility w/ upcoming 2.0 software, and monitoring during line-in sampling.

Good points. I still view Gadget and Beatmaker, Cubase, etc as comparable, simply due to the fact that, I'm doing the same work in Gadget I would be doing in BM or Cubase or any other DAW, now that Gadget has audio tracks. If my tracks when using Auria & BM2 were as tight as my Gadget tracks, I'd agree with you.

  • Hi everyone!

We're enthusiastic for the upcoming BM3 release although we just want the app to be extremely solid at launch.

Here is the current status: we're pretty much reaching the last rounds of beta's. BM3 being quite complex, polishing and fixing every aspect is time-consuming. That said, we're still releasing the app within Q2!

In the meantime, we thought it would be nice to share a couple of screenshots of the "editor".
    So! Here we go!

Thanks a bunch for all your support, this means a lot!
    Cheers,
    Mathieu.

  • My GAWD that's gonna absolutely rawk on the big ipad Pro.

    I see x-y pads!!

  • Mmmmmmm! This looks amazing. The UI is so stunning! I want it now :dizzy lol . Definitely don't mind waiting for the amount of features and updates that have been executed.

  • Any idea on the intro or upgrade price?

As AB3 there will probably be no upgrade price. I estimate it will be $29.99

  • Ok then I'm saving what I have left. Yep this baby will be sooooo worth it!

  • Those screen shots look quite nice. Why is Arturia logo in the last one?

Oh that's just the AUv3 plugin I was using. It's Arturia iSEM.

Ah, I see what it is now. Thx!

  • WHOA!!! I am so glad I got the iPad Pro because that looks like a BEAST of an app!!! Well I know now to earmark $50-60 dollars for this one.

  • edited April 2017

So being Q2 that could be from now to 30th of June :(

No offense, Tony, but for your first post ever, you're suggesting paying at least four times what the current app costs. You remind me of the plant at the back of the street-fair booth: "Why, I'd pay $100 for hand vacuum that could do that!"

    IPhone version screen shots? :#
And what will happen with the MacOS version?
There was a tweet a while ago!

lol, No offense taken! I'm just saying....when Cubasis first hit it was something like $49....and Auria pro is in that price range as well. BM3 looks to be even better than what's out from the two. I hope it's going to be a 20-30 app, but I doubt it, and truth be told, I wouldn't be mad if it is.

That's why I for one did not purchase Cubasis or Auria pro until a 50% discount!... looks like it will be the same for BM3 if it's 50 to 60 bucks especially with apples US to UK currency conversion.

  • But intro price gonna be around $29.99.

  • Check out their twitter. I can finally say it publicly: IT'S MASCHINE (desktop version) for iOS... AND BETTER!!! Because it live stretches stuff while you play it!

    Exactly....

  • It was mentioned before, but I'll mention it again for those of us who use the iPhone exclusively: SCREENSHOTS?

  • This is great news and exciting but Q2 means the end of JUNE.
So for those beta testers: Is there any profit in relearning BM2 in advance of BM3?

    Exactly....

You want midi in! it's GOT mid in. Why, it's got so much midi in it even has midi out! All the midi you need. And did you hear that, my friend? That's right! Panning! More panning that the human ear can behold! Now how much would you pay for that! But wait! There's more!
