This wonder + Psychic TV + Throbbing Gristle, you are really bringing it today, brother. Many thanks.
(Is there anything R. Henke can't do?)
(First time I've seen Psychic TV and Throbbing Gristle mentioned here, these are the only bands mentioned here that are anything like what I was doing in the 80s...)
Didn't I mention them once? I like that sort of thing, and I was part of something similar in the 80's. Cosi whatsername has a new exhibition on.
Missed your mention (kind a like I missed most of the 90s) but a belated thanks MP
Saw a workshop from him in Montreal. He explained the whole process of conceptualizing it and creating all the different iterations of it. Fascinating stuff.
More into Nurse With Wound and Coil personally.
This laser stuff is pretty amazing.
Blimey this thread is getting good. I'm currently a bit obsessed with NWW and play it constantly, much to Mrs Monzo's bleeding ears. Coil too, great stuff. This is my favourite video in the World, ever. I think I've watched it so many times it's actually me now:
I check Dangerous minds every day! Love it.
I was way into TG in the late 70's/early 80's -> I was at their "farewell" concert in San Francisco in 1981. Used to mail correspond with GPO back then. Even got the "Mission is Terminated" postcard in the mail when they broke up! Coil was never my thing although I loved them as persons of interest.
I was able to see Robert Henke do a talk/performance a few years ago, and found it extremely inspiring.
Great thread!
I can totally see why it's a favorite and why you'd become it. It got me when he says "buying the Robin Trower album for just that one bit..." and, hearing sister ray at 14 yrs old while yer mates are listing to Wishbone Ash...
Yeah, I was the same - buying Faust albums at school when my mates were listening to Wham or whatever was trendy at the time. I always liked 'the weird bits', probably why my iPad output is one long weird bit.
Coincidentally I went to see a new local client (design work) a couple of days ago, who has a place like that. Houses and shacks made out of old palettes and mad sculpture, and the most amazing octagonal music room where they hold sessions.
@MonzoPro
That sounds like a bit of heaven on earth
I'm in Ghent right now and just saw a poster saying Lumiere will here 2 days after I leave. Grrr.
It's wonderful- they've been featured on TV a few times. Unfortunately the publicity has alerted the local council to their existence, they're being evicted, and all the amazing (eco friendly) buildings knocked down. The authorities happily give planning permission to any rogue farmer to build a factory sized chicken shed, but a group of musicians and artists in low impact, hidden cabins (on their own land) is apparently something they can't tolerate.
Ive seen it unfold that way, a couple times. Seems people aren't so comfortable when the neighbors create a bit of paradise...
Mrs Monzo says I look a bit like an older, less attractive, fatter version of Mortern Harkett orwhateverhisnameis. I wish I had his money.
My dad didn't have any hair at this stage. I win.
Enjoyed the Steven Stapleton video. Thanks.
I saw Paychic TV this past weekend in Las Vegas at the Psycho Festival. They were very chill and reminded me of The Doors. They played by the pool which was so nice!
I met Mr. Henke several years ago at a show here in Seattle. He wasn't performing, just visiting a mutual friend.
I guess he's worked on some software people like? I dunno.
