BeatHawk Electric Pianos?

Did anybody get this? If so what's the verdict?

Comments

  • I'll be demoing this pack soon

  • It is all Rhodes, no Wurlitzer. All instruments, no loops. Presets include full and lite versions, as well as options like tremolo and phaser. It is great if you need to add Rhodes to your Beathawk projects, but I wouldn't say it's like the all time greatest electric piano available on iOS. You can probably get more from, say IK ilectric or Korg Module (which also has a Wurly expansion IAP, if you need Wurly), but of course those will cost more and use more resources.

You can hear it in action on my track, Lemon Tart, which uses Beathawk extensively and features the "Electric Piano Phaser" preset on the Rhodes solo break:

  • Like @Lady_App_titude says, it's no NeoSoulKeys and it only does Rhodes, but in the context of the app it works just fine. I like it very much. There's clean and effected, and a crunchy slightly distorted present.

Yes, forgot about NeoSoul Keys, which is indeed most excellent. I did just now do a quick and rough comparison with Module and Beathawk Electric Pianos and found them to be about equal (except Module includes a couple of basic FM EPs, and of course the optional Wurly IAP).

@thesoundtestroom Perhaps a shootout of all the major iOS EPs might be an interesting topic if you ever need an idea for a video, Doug. But for now I'm looking forward to the direction you are on currently with all the Beathawk expansion demos.

  • (For me) they're more than good enough and, most importantly, they're right there. Songs get written.

That's great. I'll get them then. I have Korg Module but I'm moving in the direction of instruments that support AUv3 so I deleted it.

Don't get me wrong, I love Module, but I've never used the keys in this pack from BH and thought wish I could swap them out....

....sounds good in context which would be my primary use. Thanks!

  • What Johnny Goodyear said (songs get written

  • While on the subject of beathawk, how do export audio files to the cloud. The manual says it can be done, but I can't figure out how.

  • They sound wonderful, but like ilectric, the sounds are not tweakable like neosoul.

I'm VERY happy with them for one reason: AU.
I can load them into AUM and save as preset. Then reload instantly. Module, neosoul, ilectric, don't have that, and probably never will.

NeoSoul keys sound just as good, but you are two screen changes and a few taps away from getting noise, as midi cannot be assigned to it from AUM.

AU is convenient and rock solid. Long live AU!

It's not very intuitive. There has been much discussion of this in other Beathawk threads, so you might want to check those threads for most details. The main points...

    • Be sure to save your project first (otherwise there is this problematic issue where an asterisk appears on your file name and it doesn't export correctly.

    • The two finger tap trick (see below).

Here are the basic steps as best as I can remember:

    1. Export your song from the Song window.
    2. Go back to the Pad view and choose Browser -> User Library ->Exports -> Project folder.
    3. When you have drilled down through the folders to your project (waveform icon), you have to tap the project with TWO FINGERS.
    4. Then an option pops up that shows iCloud - Export File. Select that.
    5. Choose iCloud Drive or "Locations" for more options (e.g., AudioShare, Dropbox, etc.)

As I say, far from intuitive. The two-finger thing in particular is something I've not seen in other apps and which can really trip you up if you don't know about it. Wrapping all export options in iCloud is another unconventional way that I've not seen in other apps. In terms of the asterisk issue, UVI knows about it and has said they are working on a fix.

    Hope this helps!
