Talk Me Out of Buying a Volca Kick

It sounds so good!

  • So do free samples! (I tried)

If you do cave on something like this then just be reassured that GAS (gear acquisition syndrome) can eventually take care of itself. I was near a Sam Ash music store yesterday and thought, "Hmm, I need X," but then thought "But I already own Y that will do the same thing," so I didn't go and buy anything.

  • Get a sample instead.

As a result of another thread I've been doing my stumbling about and would have to say the sample seems like the one....

Volca Kick is a fun little box, sorry to say. Especially with those 'touch fx'.

    :p

  • I want one for sub bass, listened to a demo the other day and it sounded rad.

  • Sunvox has a specific kicker module.

  • I'd wait for the volca hat and volca snare to come out first... Otherwise all you have is kicks.

  • No I won't talk you out of it...I want one too :)

I hear that you can get them on Route 66.

I'll see that and counter with a monologue, just double more and feels like a tank.

  • I once heard that every time someone buys a Volca Kick, God murders a kitten and a puppy.

  • This may just be my favorite volca. Man o man is it nice to play around with this one. The touch fx (as @brambos mentioned) are super fun - but to me, the real value is in its subtle enhancement of the character of any beat or groove you add it to. Gives it that "jenna say kwah" ya didn't have before.

    Quote of the day :D

  • PO 12

FOr this quality of sound I find this does it.

Grab the sub and po 12 and that is a great combo package

  • Either most of us aren't really doing this right or we're big believers in reverse psychology.

So much for the "hive mind."

  • I don't have any hardware synths. What's the appeal of this over the many software synths available in IOS, other than the tactile feel of the buttons and knobs? Seems more cost effective to buy software.

  • I have all the Volcas, and I can pretty much recommend them all...perhaps with the exception of the Beats only because of the snare and limited PCM capabilities. I think on its own you'd find the Kick a bit of a one trick pony (although it is a good trick ;) ). But really if you wanna go this route, you eventually wanna own 3 or 4 of them, if not all 6. Purely because so many good ideas can come out of any combination of them. Sometimes I like to just take them away from my setup and try making something with just the Sample, Bass and FM. Or just the Beats, Kick and Keys. Very fun, very inspiring. And they look like real life apps! Haha. What's not to love?!
