I'm going to guess at Nave. Both have wavetable synthesis capabilities, both by Waldorf.
For a wide range of sounds without the detailed synthesis check Synthmaster.
Of course. Everything I try to coax out of Nave sounds much reedier than the stuff in this demo....
TBH my Blofeld still outclasses nearly all of my IOS synths in terms of its fatness. Didn't keep Nave though as I didn't get on well with the interface so I'll have to take your word for it there.
Addictive Pro / Poseidon ; sometimes iM1 ; possibly Gadget (Glasgow Helsinki Kiev Wolfsburg) ; and funnily enough, Cream mobile's synth.
nice demo. saw this guy play a gig last year, just overdubs of blofeld useing his own wavetables. I was like what was that!
Thor is pretty close in my experience. Wavetables + VA oscillators (+ FM and phase distortion oscs), FM routings, dual key-trackable comb filters (this is a big feature of Blofeld that most synths don't have), several other filter types. It doesn't have quite as many wavetables as Blofeld or Nave, but I think it makes up for it on other regards.
WaveGenerator by the father of wavetable synthesis Wolfgang Palm.![](https://img.youtube.com/vi/YSswLt1rD2U/0.jpg)
That's pretty wonderful-sounding, @philowerx. But I don't know that I have the proper education to make the WaveGenerator work. But that's the less difficult of the Wolfgang Palm apps, yes? Isn't WaveMapper less friendly?
Most people say WaveMapper is easier though I prefer WaveGenerator. There's a lot of control over your sound so it is complex to program. Luckily the VST versions are nearly identical to the iOS versions so there are a number of high quality video tutorials.
That Blofeld/Pulse 2 Hardware Matrix menudiving layout is the worst in the modern synth era. I sold my Pulse 2 after a few months, sound editing is just no fun at all on these things. And Waldorf Nave has a gorgeous interface and sound. How does anyone get along with 5 encoders on a "Hardware" Synth, but is put off by a beautiful software interface???
The blofeld sounds great. The menu diving was meh but skippy encoders i could not deal with. Worst customer support experience ever on that front. But even though it sounds great only the evolving ambient pads are above what i have tried on the ipad and with klevgrand pads run by patterning, or helsinki with all the automation available i don't miss it. Haven't tried nave.
helsinki and klevgrand pads are toys compared to Nave. Nave has a very sophisticated wavetable engine, while pads has just a handful of preset wavetables that you can just morph between. Helsinki has just a bitcrusher and reverb onboard, to make it sound different, no pitch manipulation etc. If you're going for these Lo-fi fat pads, Nave is hard to beat.
No single synth quite comes near all the crazy stuff the Blofeld is capable of. Nave might be similar in that it has a similar OSC structure with 2 wavetables and 1 VA osc (same wavetables as the Blofeld btw), but everything else is different.
Those filters and drives on the Blo are amazing, I haven't heard anything quite like it on iOS. Some of fabfilters algorithms have a similar-ish sound going on (can't remember what filter on the blo that is now tho).
I only played around with Wolfgang Palm's stuff for a short while, Nave quickly became the wavetable synth of choice due to it having a UI I got along with a lot better.
We should petition Waldorf & Rolf to port Largo over to iOS:-)
I think Rolf is pretty busy this year with the Quantum :-) The nave on steroids and then some..![](https://img.youtube.com/vi/Phi8zPZcWtw/0.jpg)
Love me some Nave! Still one of my favorites after all the others.
Yea, I hope I at least get to try it some day. Wavetable/subtractive/resonator/granular synthesis mashup, can't go wrong with Waldorf & Rolf behind the wheels.:-)
The Circuit has wavetable oscillators, but using a more limited set of wavetables than I first imagined there would be.
Obviously way simpler but i've never really jumped into deep wavetable trickery. But i can quickly get sounds and movement similar to what i would shoot for on the blofeld on those two and then run it through fabfilter plugins etc. Will probably pick up nave at some point but i have enough synths i don't get around to
Nave is powerful for iOS standards. It also might be one of the first iOS syths that made it to the desktop, due to popular demand. In terms of traditional"movement" you have two LFOs, three envelopes, the typical Waldorf 8-Slot modulation Matrix, plus additional module specific modulation slots. And then, there are the three x/y pads that you can assign various modulation targets to. But, the real crazy movement comes from the wavetable travel, which is of course modulateable too. You can edit wavetables yourself btw, and import samples to analyze. Also comes with a sweet manual, that is a joy to read.
@vpich i made a patch for you to demonstrate the Lo-fi capabilities of Nave. Recorded in the built-in tape recorder of Nave without any shenanigans :-)
Like it.
Thx! Couldn't have done it on a Blofeld, would have lost my nerve wayyy too soon
But tbh i don't really know the Blofeld that well, so maybe i should hold my piece. A lot of people love the Blofeld, so there must be something to it. I just can't imagine creating sounds on that interface...
very nice, could you explain what is going on? in my limited deep editing experience that sounds to me like i could replicate it or at least get pretty close with klev pads, just manipulating the small amount of parameters, timeless and maybe saturn. the types of patches that most impress me of the blofeld though are the ones that with one press of a chord you can almost make a full ambient song.
The blofeld has a pretty good interface IMO. The matrix works really well and if you are used to software then you'll like it as it gives you nice visual feedback on the waveforms, envelopes, filters etc. I think the Pulse 2 isn't as good as it just uses to screen to display values.
@vpich Thx mate. This isn't an overly complex patch, i just cooked that up because i figured you'd be into these kind of sounds, like Helsinki or Pads. Most impact has the pitch modulation via LFO, the spectrum and especially the noise setting for the wavetable oscillators. Also one wavetable oscillator is ringmodulated with white noise. The overdrive emulation of Nave sounds very good and is used quite a bit here, positioned before the filter, to smooth it out. Filter is a 24 db LP, with slight Keytrack and Envelope modulation. Internal Nave effects used are a ton of Chorus, some Reverb, and a little Compressor
Klevgrand Pads doesn't let you do any of that stuff. It comes with some pretty nice sounding 12 wavetables, a "wobble" slider that is a little like the Pitch LFO, but you can only modulate the intensity, not the frequency. While timeless can provide a pretty sweet lo-fi effect, i don't think you would come close to this particular sound with Pads. Don`t let it fool you, that these synths are only a few euros apart from each other. Pads is a nice little Gadget, Nave is a sounddesign monster, that found it's way to the desktop from iOS due to popular demand. I keep thinking Nave was the first one to cross over in that direction!
Matrix is the same and it didn't work for me at all. I always turned the encoder when it was set to something else...i just hated it's guts with a passion, and still do. But, there have always been pain resistant musicians, who always made it work for them and still do, like with the DX 7, or the Wavestation etc. I have to respect that...
Yes I guess the matrix isn't for everyone. All I really meant is the blofeld UI is far more superior and it helps a lot when navigating as you get more visual feedback than on the pulse
True, the Pulse 2 OS was stupid. All you can see is a giant number of the preset. Great![:D :D](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)
@vpich Some bread and butter ambient? :-)
