Tonight's performance! ..

.. was particularly interesting!
I made more effort to film/record this one than usual and there were also a few extra video cameras around, which I might be able to get the footage from (plus I spotted the engineer recording stems so I should be able to grab those too).

I've been meaning to put something tangible together to share here so I'll make the effort to get it stitched together somehow (I've not got the kit to do it but I might be able to ask a friend to sync and bounce it, then I can prob cut it up in iMovie). Here's what I've got to share right now:

Audiobus2
Audiobus Remote
AUM
SpectrumView (Oxford Wave Research)
AUFX:Space
AUFX:Dub
AUFX:Push
Holderness Crystalline
Holderness Stereo Designer
Frekvens
F16 Filter
AmazingNoises Limiter
+
a whole bunch of analog gear from our collaborators 'Analog On'. They have some amazing tracks which I know you're all going to love, by the way!
https://m.soundcloud.com/user-650371166/sets/analog-on-1 (recorded in/on/with Moog Sound Lab!)

I'll share/shamelessly self promote anything else in terms of video and whatnot when I get that sorted.

  • Very inspiring to see a live setup such as this !

Can you elaborate on that suitcase setup with its hardware and routing ?
Curious also how Spectrum View ends up on the backdrop ( assuming that is what is seen there )

  • @OscarSouth looks like a lot of fun!

I saw your post on the other thread also, and I was wondering if you would be willing to share your AUM preset. You mentioned intricate routing of the AUFX apps within AUM, i would love to see what you've got going there.

  • @OscarSouth Terrific post. Really get a feel. Thanks so much for taking the time. And, yeah, would love to see more when you round it up...

  • Very cool. Glad the tech held up for you.

  • Wow! Very cool indeed!

Brilliant - my kind of gig! Thanks for posting this, I'm hoping to do something similar with my band and iPad, so might pick your brains at some point!

It's basically your garden variety iConnectivity Audio4+ setup. Two iPads (Air2 & Mini2) connected and routing Audio/Midi in between. Controllers plugged into host port. Line out is just a stereo balanced XLR pair. If I'm using drum machines, bass sounds or an electric bass instrument then I also rout a third line out through a Markbass Blackline bass head for bass sounds. Sometimes I offload some background tasks onto the second iPad but this time as it wasn't necessary I just used it to display SpectrumView as well as record an internal audio mix.

The background isn't connected with my equipment, it's a separate program which is reacting to the FOH mix. Our collaborators organised that! SpectrumView was useful in this performance for visual monitoring as I was processing overtone music live. Gives a clearer idea of what's going on, as it can be tricky live, even with headphones, to keep track of the finer details sometimes.

Yeah I'd be happy to. I'm in a bit of a rush at the moment but perhaps when I post up some video stuff I'll also share my presets with some explanation.

I'll definitely get a video done. I've got to find someone to help me synch the audio and video (no access to studio PC at the moment) but when I've got that I should be able to make something with iMovie.

Here's a few pictures I took of the camera angles I took (and I may be able to get hold of another from the front of stage):

Haha, it's all in the preparation! 2.5 hours of live improv with no issues whatsoever.

Please do! I'd be interested to hear about what you're planning too.

  • @OscarSouth

Thanks for the rundown..Creative use of spectrumview -- was convinced that was driving the background display..

    Looking forward to that video!

  • Love this report and am looking forward to a video!

  • Fun TV pics. Really pop somehow.

Just a quick update to say that I've not forgotten about this.

I've now got all the footage and the master audio file from the University, so the next challenge is to figure out how to sync it all up.. I may have to call in a favour as my only PC is this terrible Toshiba laptop, with less than 14GB total HD space and the ability to run 6 tabs in Chrome for 45 minutes before restarting, with only semi-frequent memory warnings. I'm thinking if I can get someone to align all the video and audio to a zero point, then I can probably edit on iMovie, on my iPad Mini2 (it has enough storage space to hold all the video files).

    @heybail @JohnnyGoodyear @lukesleepwalker @MonzoPro @Hmtx @gusgranite
Thanks to all for being patient here. I'll do a big post with video and describing the setup used when I manage to get it synced and edited.

I've actually got more performances coming up with Trinity College this month too. 4 Channel sound for this one. Should be interesting!!

    Bravo!

  • Yeah that Toshiba doesn't sound up to that task -- being near a university maybe you could get access to a relatively new Mac w/ iMovie ( computer lab.. library ? ) .. syncing audio is pretty straightforward in the desktop version if you can see the audio waveform in the master video after importing into iMovie. Good luck !
