Great- I have been thinking about one of these- but was a bit wary following a few duff purchases lately. You rate it highly then... I suppose 'amazing' would be hard to beat. Is it that good? Much better than all the rest you have tried?
Also can you tell me- can you control the gate time with the ribbon?
    Cheers

Amazing...I know. It's a new piece of kit :p i have a minilogue and a circuit, so that's all I can compare it to...but as far as patch quality, it's pretty beautiful even though it's a monosynth. I've had it for a few hours, but let me look into the Ribbon Gate control...

  • Great - I also recently had a Circuit I found the sounds a bit lightweight (I know there is an editor etc- but I couldn't be doing with that sort of thing). How would you describe the sounds of the machine in general?

I have just had a look at the manual- it is available online already- it doesn't look like there is gate time control- unless I have missed it? Also- am I right in saying it is step record only? I saw no mention of real time recording?

    Cheers

It sounds Fat, Airy and Beautiful. Its a Step based sequencer. I haven't fully explored the Step Sequencer, but I just recorded a quick sequence and it seems like you can use the HOLD button to Tie Notes Together during the record phase...not sure if it's exposed in an Editor view yet...but will look.

Just pop it in to your local Guitar Center and they should have one. Once you hear it you will know if it's for you or not.

  • I want one of these, even though it's very light on controls it does sound amazingly good. Once I've recovered financially from buying the mpc live I think I'll get one of these to pair with the mpc

  • Yeah I was a bit skeptical with the limited controls, but the sound that comes out of it more than makes up for it. Everything else is available via a quick contextual control but you just have to do a little digging to navigate to it all.

  • Nice! I'm jealous.

Much like the DSI Mophos. Also like them: absolutely boss mode MIDI implementation. Looking at the manual, every every every thing can be controlled via MIDI CCs or NRPNs (most of it). Still, a few more on board controls and/or a USB MIDI host port along with MIDI learn would make this thing a lot more attractive.

I would- but no shop in this country (Scotland) stocks it unfortunately. I will keep listening to the demos.

That is a real bummer about the lack of real time recording though. This is one of the reasons I found myself going off the Roland TB- 03 and going back to the TB-3. Can you edit/ change the notes without any fuss whilst it is playing?
    Cheers

  • Hopefully you'll be able to check it out soon. You can definitely edit the notes on Device, but it's not ideal. There is a free Editor which makes it a lot easier. Here's another little lunch time experiment with the AS-1, Bazille, Factory and Recife:

Off the top of my head: TB-03 can also do it, once you set it to the "easy step mode". By default it's set to classic/original mode, which does not allow it (in this mode it's mimicking the original TB-303 behavior).

Edit - scratch that. I thought you meant editing the sequence while it is playing. Not realtime recording I think...

Thanks it does sound really good- you don't waste any time getting your sounds together!- I see there are more and more videos coming online as well which is great. I think the decay/ release knob will take care of my gate time control type concerns.

I was meaning was it easy to change a note on any given sequence- target it then pitch it up or down to change it whilst it is playing- I'm sure (hopeful!) that this is the case. - Thanks brambos- that is what I am meaning this time- for the AS 1 :)

I am getting the distinct feeling that I am being a little over cautious here- but they are a bit outwith the parameters of an impulse purchase- and not being able to try one out is contrary to my instincts now after a few recent goofs- buying before trying............. Come to think of it though- there are lots of hardware items that I have bought several times over- only to rediscover why I had decided to get shot of them in the first place :s when I should really have known better.
    Cheers

  • I have just found it in the manual- you can change the 'entered note setting'- I assume whilst it is playing- would you be able to confirm that it is whilst playing echoopera when you get the chance? - Cheers

  • Hahaha...sounds like me before I noodled on it. I was 99% convinced that I didn't need it until I used it. And for what it's worth, I'd do the same until you use it. :) Who knows, maybe you'll get a hands on demo in a week or so :)

  • edited April 2017

Yep...you sure can. You can bring up the Sequencer in the little screen and change the Note and Velocity in Real Time as it plays. Just did it. :)

  • Great- many thanks for that- I'm almost there! :p

Hahahah...my pleasure, but don't blame me mate :D

  • Here it is in happy Harmony with the AS-1, Minilogue and Circuit...too fun

  • @echoopera : I created a modstep template for it, can you give it a test run? Don´t have one of those over here...

  • Awesome. I'll test it out this weekend. Thanks a lot :)

''Tis a thing of beauty. Thanks Nerk! B)

  • I'd be really happy to give DSI another $150 for a version with more knobs!

That would be cool. But the button config of the AS-1 is like their Mopho. Just have to Menu dive to access additional control. Not too bad honestly after using it a few days.

  • The Mopho is based on the Prophet 8 and the AS-1 is based on the Prophet 6...not sure on the differences though. But I do love the AS-1 so far.

  • I made an editor for the AS-1 in MIDIDesigner pro.
