c3n loops is on sale 50% off for Easter
I've had the interesting loop player c3n Loops on my watch list for awhile, but I admit that I gave it a pass due to a handful of user's comments complaining about lack of panning, and/or not knowing how to delete samples, etc.
But, I noticed it too is now on "Easter Sale" for 50% off (though, I think it's actually a little less than 50% off) https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/c3n-loops/id985024877?mt=8
I decided to take it for a spin, and I really like it. You can do similar stuff with apps like Rotor, etc. but this c3n Loops interface is really fun to play with. And, the devs just mentioned on twitter that they've submitted an update to Apple that includes an AB update, Ableton Link, and midi. I don't know the specifics, but it looks like it's about to get a little more interesting.
It doesn't support IAA though. I asked the dev about this on their facebook page and they didn't have plans to add IAA for now, and decided to focus their efforts on midi, AB, and Ableton Link. It works find to route it into AUM or another DAW via AB, but I think their decision to not support IAA is a bit of a mistake.
That being said, I'm enjoying the app and will keep it. Thought I'd mention it since it's on sale at the moment for the Easter holiday.

Oops... didn't see there was already another mention of this app. And, some are still put off by the lack of panning. I played with the app last night for a good hour. I like it and don't really feel it needs panning. That's just me though. To each their own. I'm glad I got it and looking forward to the imminent 1.2 update that includes midi, AB, and Ableton Link. It already has AB so I don't know what the AB update is or if it's AB3.
My experience with the app so far has been good. YMMV
thanks for the info. was interested in it as it's a cool looking app, didn't know it's not IAA...hmmm.
Yeah, I'd prefer it to have IAA, but having to use AB to route it to AUM isn't a dealbreaker for me. I also heard back for the dev that the update that's waiting for approval in the store right now is for AB2, midi, ableton link. They said the AB3 sdk wasn't out yet when they were working on it.
I'm enjoying it, but there are other ways to do similar types of control. I just happen to like the interface and control. And, on-sale for $5 with Link and midi coming very soon, it's a keeper.
hey skip just curious is it just this app that you don't feel needs panning or any music app?
btw those improvements you mentioned did peak my interest
Maybe just this app. And, maybe in the same way that Borderlands Granular doesn't really need panning (though I don't recall if it has it).
There samples builtin, but you can delete those I believe. Importing in your own is easy via AudioShare, Dropbox, etc. several ways. You can launch them separately, or several together. You can adjust several parameters individually per sample ring including level. Then you can group those together, and make other groups of samples. There are triggers around each group ring and you can specify sample 1 is place if trigger 1, or 2, or 3, etc. Or, just 2, or just 4, or just 4 and 5, etc. That can be set differently for each sample group. The samples sort of keep some kind of sync with each other (unless I'm imagining that) You can clone samples too, and have several versions of the same tweaked sample.
I mean... it'd wouldn't be a detriment if they added panning too, but I personally don't see it's lack as a deal breaker. I think Link and midi should also be very interesting, but I haven't seen that update yet. It was reportedly submitted a couple days ago.
This has been on my appshopper watch list for nearly a year I think, and I don't think it's gone on sale since it was launched. I noticed it was on sale the other day, but was going to give it a pass for now since it hadn't been updated... but that update is coming very soon, so I nabbed it at sale price and was very pleasantly surprised. Again YMMV
thanks for your insights, my fear is that I'd like the app allot and the more samples I'd add the more issues with layering there are, at least that's what I experience with most heavily layered music either sample based or not, panning and eq are just things I can't live without
the app is definitely intriguing I'm just super tired of giving incentives to devs to not implement the basics like panning, midi, import, export, delete, sample record input monitoring, file structure, etc... you know the drill. Look at Samplr.... that's my favorite app of all time and it painfully needs panning and a way to organize samples in folders bah, I digress.
