Audiobus routing in Modstep
just want to say hello and ask a question about how to route multiple outputs from modstep thru audiobus to a sound card with multiple outs.
I've been trying to find any way to route the internal sampler in mod step to individual outputs in audiobus. maybe I'm just missing something but it seems like you can't do this?
hopefully I'm wrong and any help would be much appreciated

Well, you shouldn't have to do anything special in Modstep. The first 8 channels should route themselves. Track 1 to Out 1, Tract 2 to Out 2 ... etc. You then just add Modstep one time for every output you want in Audiobus. You can find the individual outs by pressing (i) next to the name in the selection list.
Unfortunately, I can't get it to work that way in either audiobus 2 or audiobus 3. Only the first output gets captured. The rest sound, but through background audio, not audiobus.
Multiple outputs work OK in AUM.
You can't do multiple outs with just Audiobus. You need AUM to send separate outputs to a soundcard. You could theoretically do modstep=>Audiobus=>Aum but since modstep doesn't state save it's pointless to add it in the mix in this specific use case.
AB3 doesn't output to multiple system outputs if your audio interface has them? I did not know that (not having a multiple channel interface anyway). Well, either way, Modstep multi-channel audio ain't workin' in Audiobus for me.
Nope. Audiobus never had multiple outputs. Neither 2 nor 3. And it works fine in Aum regarding modstep's outputs. I usually route modstep directly into AUM with only apps that support state saving passing through Ab3.
I never use the internal instruments or host anything inside ModStep, so AB3 + MF Adapter + apps in AB3 is working pretty nice for me. I was surprised when I wasn't able to get multi-out audio in Modstep working. I thought I had that working at one point, and had only to remember to pull down the master fader or something. Oh well. Moot point since AUM is needed for the OP's needs anyway.
You can also add multiple outs to Audiobus with MiMiX if you don't want to buy AUM, But AUM is the best option.
I've had trouble getting Modstep to load as IAA in AUM myself. Much as I love Modstep, this AB audio routing bug is very frustrating has existed for a long damn time. I've brought it up on pretty much every feedback thread, submitted official big reports etc etc. It also doesn't reconnect the singular operational port when booting up from an Audiobus preset. You need to unload and reload Modstep to get it to reconnect again.
@Nerk_ is there any chance of a solution for this on the horizon?
actually. are you running the modstep beta. it broke Iaa for some reason. i reverted to the public release and its fine again.
Hey thanks for all the replies! Ok that make me feel a bit clearer about where I need to go with this. So AUM will do this , and so will Mimix? It's a shame that I bought audiobus because the modstep manual claims this is the way you get multiple outputs- I feel like its quite misleading!
I'm actually using an rme baby face and or a ucx and an 802- but they all work with the total mix app (which is great - it's exactly the same as TotalMix on the computer) but there's no way for me to take modstep routing directly into TotalMix
Ideally modstep would just have an audio routing option in the io selection setting in a similar way to how pretty much every daw functions, but maybe this is a really specialist need? Will AUM allow me to select which of my sampler instruments go to which outputs of the sound Card?
Cheers,
.
With AUM you create a channel, tell the channel where it is getting it's input from and where it's output is going, so yes you should be able to send specific samplers to specific channels, If you host the samplers in Modstep then i think you can only have 8 and they must be the first 8 channels,, if you host them in AUM it is not limited beyond your iDevices capabilities.
EDIT : Just seen the other thread, as you DO want to use the ModStep internal instruments then you will be limited to 8 channels.
I'm not sure what it says in the manual.
Audiobus is said to be getting multiple outputs at some point. But not right now. you can use Mimix as an output in audiobus to route channel outputs to hardware interface with multiple outputs.
Or you could use a DAW like Cubasis/Auria Pro MTS etc which routes audio outputs.
But AUM has channel routing built in, I use iConnectAudio4+ (see below)
However I only use Modstep with midi so can't confirm if it's stable with audio routing.
