Hey all,
I've got a session performance coming up for one of the more contemporary music universities here, performing various accompanying music technology roles for their student assessment performance. Quite happy that I'm starting to get involved with the universities here in a technology based role! I've got a long term tendon injury at the moment in my left forearm which is troubling me, as I make my living playing bass but playing bass is stopping it from healing. Branching out into other areas is definitely a positive move for long term health and general life security.
Anyway, back to my topic..

Most of the job is really simple tasks such as synth textures, filling in samples and special effects from the tracks being covered. There's one sound in particular that I'm emulating, which I thought I'd run by you guys. I want to get this one really close as it's a very prominent aspect of the track. I'm pretty well versed in synthesis techniques, but I'm also aware that most of my work has been focussed on working in an original context and making new sounds rather than re-creating existing ones. There's a lot of great experience here in this area, so I hope that you don't mind my asking for opinions/insight ( @u0421793, I immediately thought of your synthesis expertise!).

This is the track. A lot of the sounds will be created by the guitar players under assessment. The sound I'm specifically looking at here comes in prominently for the first time at about 0:49 :

Sounds like the effect is just a simple descending low pass filter sweep, unless anyone is hearing something deeper? What underlying timbral considerations would you recommend? I'm just hearing a bright full spectrum sound. Saw wave? I'm not an expert at this as usually I'm just experimenting with different parameters for interesting/suitable musical results, later tightening the sound in the mix with the amp envelope.

I'm thinking to use Animoog for this performance, although I'm open to suggestions as to other synths (although I don't want to buy a new expensive one). Is there any Animoog preset that would be a good go-to as a starting point? (I don't have any of the add on packs but could pick one up).

    I would say Sunrizer would get you very close using 2 detuned supersaw waveforms with the width up to about 3/4 and tailoring the filter envelope to shape it.

    Just quickly did this on the iphone version Sunrizer xs through the phone speaker. It's setup as a chord, but you can just hit the chord button to turn it off.

    I'm thinking to take a punt on Sunrizer, although I'd prefer to grab the iPhone one (not just cheaper but I primarily use my iPhone for synths). Will the iPhone version do everything I need or will I need to grab the iPad one later?

    Im not an expert at all but some presets (classic poly) of ipolysix are closed to this synth's sound beginning at 0:49

    Oh, sorry. I assumed you had Sunrizer.
    I mainly use the iPad version. I believe there is a problem with background audio on the iPhone version.
    Withstanding that it still makes the same beautiful noises.
    I would heartily recommend the iPad version. To me it's still one of the nicest sound synths on iOS and the all on one page for main functions makes it so immediate.
    Having said that, there was a problem where the internal Arp would start to drift out of time with other apps synced after a few bars. I'm not sure if that was fixed in the latest update as I've left mine on the previous version.
    I never use that function anyway and sequence the app from my Novation Circuit which works a treat.

    Wow, nailed it!! It sounds very close to the sound on the track! Thank's very much for lending a hand. It's a real help to have such a solid point to work from. Got to get to know this Synth a little more now!

    Picked up the phone version so that I can use my SE to host it (and also because of the price tag) and I have to add, what an unbelievably great sounding synth!
