Need second pad to play with link- 1st Generation Mini OK?

I have an Air2- but want a cheap option to mess about with link- is there any reason it should not be a second hand 1st generation mini? It would be running only a few apps - Gadget, Stroke Machine, Sector, Figure, iKaossilator, Launchpad, blocs wave, SynthQ, Audioshare, Troublemaker, WOW, Turnado and a few others.
Thanks.

  • I think mini 1 will struggle with several of those apps. Troublemaker's App Store description even specifies mini 2

Ok- thanks. Any recommendations- for the least expensive but suitable option?

  • My mini2 holds up well enough as a good link sidekick.

    Noooooooo!!!!!!!!!!

    Don't do it!!!!!!!!!!!

It would be a horrible mistake!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go for the Mini 2!!!!!!!!!!!

    Buying a mini 1 in 2017 it's not a good purchase. It's already stuck at iOS 9 with a horrible non-retina screen. It's basically an iPad 2.

There's no way the apps you mention will run even remotely ok on a mini 1. Imagine getting audio glitches with two gadget tracks.

  • Troublemaker requires Mini 2 because it's built around AU. I think the Mini 1's cpu would be powerful enough, but Apple won't allow it ;)

  • Don't get anything below a mini2 or air1. 32bit devices function like garbage with anything above iOS 7.1.2. and link needs a minimum of ios9.

  • Another vote for the Mini-2, which was a BIG step up from the iPad-2.
Smallest Ram size may be sufficient for a player-only device, significant cost reduction.

  • AFAIK, mini 1 is 32bit, mini 2 was the first 64bit mini. You'll be ok for now, with mini 1, but when iOS 11 drops in September, and the 32bit cull happens, then you'll probably wish you had a mini2.

  • Thanks very much- a mini2 it shall be - I am so glad I posted this- I was on the verge of buying a 1
