ElasticDrums STILL bombing out

I reckon I've had this problem with varying degrees since it was released, first noticed it in Audiobus but now it's a regular 'feature' in IAA/AUM - I'll get a great thing going with a few synths, and after a couple of minutes it bombs out.

Sick and tired of this app - this has never really been fixed so deleting it.

Rant over, and breathe...

  • Sorry to hear that. Never crashed on me once, in any scenario I can think of. I assume you've uninstalled/reinstalled etc., so I guess just bum luck there. I do know that Oliver the dev is very approachable and might be able to help you out if you still have the patience.

  • It's probably your iPad running out of power. Elastic drums is pretty heavy. Running it at a lower buffer and then piling other apps on usually causes it and other heavy apps like model15 to crash. The solution is to just increase the buffer or run it on a second device.

  • Maybe dump a pattern into another app, like SECTOR or Egoist or even Samplr, then go from there. You lose some of what ED offers, yet still retain some of it's goodness.

  • Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I might try reinstalling, maybe that'll help.

Yeah could be - I do have similar issues with Model15. I'll check the buffer settings.

That's a good idea, I might record a few patterns and use them as loops - I can run them in AUM (though that seems to play up sometimes when I try and record the audio players), but my favourite at the moment is Reslice, which could make a good job of it. I'll miss the jamming tools in ElasticDrums though, I love using those.

  • Could also utilize the file player in AUM, subbing out apps for audio, and maybe still jam in ED. I currently use AUM this way, commiting to audio as much as possible due to it's reliability. Who knows maybe ED will still crash, might be worth trying.

Yeah I'll try slimming down my live app count and use some audio loops in their place. I've had quite a few issues with AUM not picking up recordings though - and the main culprit seems to be when I'm using their file player in the mix. I'll give it a try tonight - just a shame I miss out on the Link functionality of playing the apps together live.

  • I've had lots of trouble with ED for a long time now. For this reason i tend to use Seekbeats instead and of course recently Future Drummer

It's a fantastic app, but I've had problems with it since release. Instead of fixing stability issues and bringing resource usage down, they just keep throwing new features at it. It'll be fine for a bit, and then an update will make it wobble again.

For me, the beauty of it is alongside other apps in a live, IAA/Link tweaked session, but it keeps dropping out and messing up my recordings.

I'll try the suggestions above but I'm close to deleting this.

  • ED isn't exactly my cup of tea (as it turned out later) and so doesn't get much use.
But I can't rembember any crashes... running IOS 9.
Are you on version 10 possibly ?
I ask for collecting information about version 10 stability as stalls in Auria are reported frequently related to IAA etc.

Yeah I'm on 10. It drops out of AUM when playing, and when I hit 'reload' it's reset to the default patch.

It used to be a pain in Audiobus as well.

It's always been unreliable for me in a multi app setup so I'm guessing I need to try some resource management or ditch it.

Yes, when it works it is a great app which is why i keep it around despite it's issues in the hopes that they will patch it eventually

Throw the loops into blocs wave and then jam with them in the slicer - even reslicer if you want to sequence them - from Future drummer...use the built in jamming from that :)

  • Strange, never had single crash lately (iOS 10.3 ipad Air2). It is a bit heavy but really love it!

  • no crashes here on IOS 10.3.1 Ipad Air2. @MonzoPro what device and os are you using exactly ?

Yeah Blocs and ReSlice are faves :)

    ^ that.

Do you run it linked with other apps? Last night I was trying to run ED, Egoist and Troublemaker Linked through AUM and it wasn't having it. That's only four apps, I thought an Air 2 could handle this.

I've definitely run more apps than that! Will give it a try later to see what happens.

Although I'm not so sure my results would be helpful for you since I'm running newer betas of both AUM and Ab3....
