IOS 8: Flashbacks Lately
I am having a slew of bullshit issues in the last month.
I am not sure if I need new powered hub, is it all the Audiobus changes and corresponding apps, or is it the LINK stuff muddling things up.
More specifically, I am having MIDI drop out regularly.
And I seem to have more and more odd issues of apps crashing, disconnecting, yada yada.
Overall, my workflow is not stable more and more. I can't place what it is but i am wondering if anyone else is seeing a surge of midi and/or audio issues making IOS music?

IOS 8 all over again at times.
Oh, Audiobus latest 2, sometimes 3 ipad Air 1 and 2 and iphone 7.

I've always felt the need for...SIMPLICITY
I'm a midiot for sure..I will not bother trying to understand midi between apps..
I like standalone apps..first nano studio then gadget and was fine working with those without any other apps connected to them..I'd acp stuff into the trg pads or some samples into Eden on nano studio and created full tracks..same in gadget with the Bilbao mostly.
But recently I'm quite enamoured with the latest GarageBand version..for me the UI is sweet and I quite like the sequencer. It's just bad that having an iPad mini retina that I couldn't get alchemy as part of the update....so I have been trying out the very limited choice of audio unit extensions and having some success and some failures.
I mean...I don't see why we need to spend hundreds on new devices EVERY YEAR just to keep making music right? I bet some producers have not changed their pc or laptop nor had to update daws or vst every year..but we do...and iOS updates and app updates always bring new bugs to the table..
Things need to simplify a bit so that more stability comes about..apple needs to chill and let things settle so devs can catch up too lol..there is too much pressure on devs to keep updating things...
Anyway..I'm getting an iPhone 7 tomorrow ( yay) and I will install GarageBand on it and see how alchemy works within it and see if I can create some new music. I might install gadget in it too but it might be fiddly lol
We buy a device costing hundreds..we should be able to use it for a few years without any stagnation lol

Always update immediately like a dumb ass.
That is my issue.
I literally had a harem of 10 apps that I near exclusively used.
These apps are falling into issues and I don't know where to even look.
I can't tell what is triggering it.
Here are some thoughts:
DOES LINK AFFECT NON LINK APPS MIDI OR CLOCK AT ALL?
WHY DO SOME OF MY APPS STAY RUNNING EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE ALL CLOSED?
I DELETED AB3 AND STILL HAPPENED.
ARE THERE ANY APPS YOU THINK MAY HAVE AN ISSUE? FOR INSTANCE, I AM BEGINNING TO SUSPECT THOR OF SOME MIDI AFFECT AND DISTURBER.
I EVEN BOUGHT NEW CCK TO TEST THEORIES.
I CAN'T FIND ANY PATTERNS REALLY.
I am NOT blaming AB3 at all.
I wonder if all the upgrades of the other apps along with them keeping up with ios upgrades and then LINK stuff if things are just "off".
AB may contribute, but no more or less than any other.
This is a big picture issue IMHO with ios music apps right now.
Look at Sugar Bytes. what was that app that came out? Doesn't work for me.
Cyclop never was 100%.
Things like this, it is just starting to feel like I am cherry picking to find things that work nice for me at the moment.
I am sure it will sort it self out.
I don't yet have AB3 so I cannot comment. I use ab2 when I need to record live ambient stuff and it's stable enough
The issue is iOS really shines with simplicity..like the sugar bytes apps you mentioned..they are desktop apps ported to iOS...they are simply just too cluttered and need far more power than iOS gives I think...
Take nano studio for example..you can run that on a 3GS lol
Also having issues lately (IAA,Audiobus). Since I disabled Link in all the apps (including audiobus), everything runs more stable. I think it has something to do with Link conflicting with midi.

This is in my original preface.
I already had a huge clusterfuck with Egoist with LINK.
So I disabled it.
It had MIDI sync and already matched the BPM of the project? LINK in Egoist shitted it up so I am using like I did.
LINK is swell and all. I am beginning to see it as nice to save time instead of the fidget BPM controls on 5 or 6 apps.
I made great music well before LINK and before IOS for that matter. I hope that the keeping up with the latest "Buzz" of sync or what have you doesn't derail the ios music app scene too much.
Lately, 50% of the time using Fx apps leads to some issue with fx app or the one I am trying to effect.
As stated, for a minute, all seemed doomed with ios 8 for a minute, but it corrected.
I just am bummed things have taken steps back at the moment.
I hope developers always give tools and methods that people actually really want, not that just sound or look cool at the moment.
Exactly why I love the Pixi /1 bit apps for SOOOOO MUUUUUCHHH.

Thanks for saying a positive and not ragging on any apps. That is the hopes for a touchy subject like this.
Not to offend or piss off developers, but rather give them insight into the mood of some of us right now as we spend --------in my case----4-6 hours a day making IOS music or designing samples/presets/stems on where we are at.
