I wonder if there was also an SDK update and if we'll see a rash of updates for AB apps now with "Updated AudioBus version" as the entire update description.
Also wondering (lightly speculating?) if the AudioBus team pulled some magic for devs along the lines of "Dont worry about updating your app for iOS 7 interapp audio and that - we did it for you. Just update the AudioBus SDK."
@commonstookie LOL! Well spoken! Hehehe! I haven't finished a whole lot of tracks lately either, but I'm having a lot of fun anyway! :-)
@syrupcore Interesting! It would seem that it must be a surety that an SDK update must be coming if not for this version release, then for the release that will have all of the new stuff.....
If, as I suspect and hope, Midi is improved and integrated, then I would imagine that everyone would need the new SDK and a recompile.... It will be interesting times soon! :-)
What is everyone's experiences with this new update? I'm especially interested in everyone who is using an iPad 2. Does there seem to be any more resource usage? Does everything seem to be working the same? I don't think I'll be doing the update until I can find this out, since I'm so limited with resources.....
Cubasis seem to show the same CPU reading...somewhere around the middle.!!
Beat machine looks unchanged.
What other apps give CPU readings?
Dropping ios7 into the equation may change things...sweepstake anyone?
It's just a minor update to prepare for iOS 7, it won't affect your current system/resources.
Sounds good! :-)
A suggestion from me personally, not as a member of Audiobus, Audanika or whatever else:
Since people are very excited about iOS 7 I'd like to mention that now would be the best time to update all of your devices to iOS 6 if they aren't already and make sure they're backed up.
I personally would not recommend any serious musician to update to a new version of the operating system that they're using to make music before the first update to it or before they know from someone else that every app they use works like it did on the older version.
Every new OS has bugs and the 1.1 release is always much more reliable than the 1.0 one.
You wouldn't replace the mainboard of your favorite analog synth before you've asked around if anyone else is experiencing problems with the new version of it.
Yea I´m personally sticking with iOS 6 on my iPad 2 until someone reliable says otherwise. I do have alot of music apps and stuff on the iPhone 5, but it´s not my "main" iDevice for music which would be the iPad 2, so I´m jumping on the iOS 7 update with the iPhone (unless there´s some really nasty stuff/bugs in it?).
Hi,
And as Sebastian just mentioned, never download or install updates in the middle of a production or project that you do not want to lose.
Best regards, GN
I typically wait a few weeks after a major release before upgrading for just that reason. You never know what will break and it's a good idea to let someone else shake the bugs out. I'm mostly going to wait to see how performance is affected on the iPad 2 / iPad Mini. Using multiple music apps simultaneously already strains the limits of my Mini and even a small performance hit from iOS 7 could pretty much kill my workflow.
I'm like Chris. Phone pretty much immediately, iPad after the Internet thinks it's a good idea.
I definitely won't be an early adopter. Hehehe! My days of going through that to be first in line with the new toys are over. I prefer stability. :-) I'll be watching with great interest though! :-)
Does "Audiobus connection presets" mean that it will similar to the desktop environment with plugins and presets/parameters being recalled when you relaunch a DAW host?
Good question. I don't know anything for sure, but the release date can't be too much farther off. September 18 is the release date of iOS7 AFAIK, so if the NDA is lifted at that time, we may get some more information then.
No, parameters will not (yet) be part of the setup. It's just going to remember what apps were connected.
.....or if it's not something under NDA, and Sebastian is feeling generous, he might just pop in and answer your question himself. ;-)
Yet sounds promising.
Absolutely! :-)
That's awesome! And great to hear that parameter recall is in the works too.
Still struggling to understand Audiobus' future with the inter app audio thingy.....will we need it at all in 6 months ?
I don't personally know yet. I think most of us who aren't developers are eagerly waiting for the NDA to be lifted so that we can learn more about the new technologies. :-)
I was wondering if having the inter app audio would allow AB to connect to non AB apps? Meaning, could AB itself become a module and bring with it all its input apps and make connection with non AB apps through inner app audio? Too much time on my hands.
That's the way I assumed it might play out @mgmg4871. If so, then I wonder how effects would be handled, and if you could have something like non-AB app O/P to AB I/P, then AB O/P to non-AB app for effects, back into AB I/P to further add effects and record to track. If so, it sounds like we might need an A7....or faster, along with more RAM. Has anything been mentioned regarding whether AB would be a host, node, or both?
I was thinking this application would only be necessary to connect non AB apps, and after recording just disconnect from inter app audio altogether.
May be the case.....definitely looking for the veil of non-disclosure to lift!
I guess by Wednesday.
I'm very surprised there has been no info leak by now. Guess Apple pulled out the big guns.
I was counting on your sleuthing there @mgmg4871.
Actually, there was a leak here on this forum a while ago, where someone found a youtube video posted that was an hour long that talked about all of the new stuff that CoreAudio was bringing, but Apple was extremely quick and got it removed before I could even get home to watch it. I don't know if it covered everything, but it looked to at least be enlightening....
