Is there a way to load multiple midi files into the slots for easy listen?
A midi file is loaded as a song and as such decomposed into separate patterns. Therefore, only one can be loaded at a time.
Oh I see. I asked cause I have tons of individual midi drum loops which I can load in song mode as you kindly stated but they're not full songs. What would be the recommended way to work around this?
Load such midi drum loop in Song view. Save-as the loaded pattern in Pattern view under a new name/category. Repeat this procedure for at most 64 loops. Then, in Pattern view/Load, load all (max 64) loops in one go by using the multiple select option. Then, go to Song mode and create a new song with the (max 64) loops. Save this "bank of loops" as a new song (Save-as).
In this bank of loops patterns can be auditioned at will, directly selectable via ipad screen, midi CC, midi PC or Audiobus remote. Also, a set of patterns can be selected in the song, that can be played in loop mode (longpress loop button).
The song serves as a pattern bank here and can be reloaded anytime.

Once you have created those pattern banks, you may want to use the Backup function in Settings view to keep your efforts safe ;-)

One question Can you make function that all (4) layers play in same time, it will be great for layering drums for example 4 layers for one snare!

If you need a drum track to be more than just rhythmic accompaniment (think heavy metal or prog rock), this app has no contenders for programming your drum performance. If drum hits need to match up to other parts like guitar, bass, synth, etc. - nothing comes close to Drum Perfect. The fact that you can load it up with your own curated samples is just icing on the cake. Kudos on the new features and hard work that went into this latest update, @Marinus
Honorable mention to @DerekBuddemeyer's Drum Session for providing access to well over 16 kit voices – really, everything you'd ever need – but how the more esoteric voices like cymbal clasps and woodblocks figure into its stem export is still a work in progress, AFAIK.
You can do a fair bit with Sample Tank's drum kits, either via Genome or imported into Bilbao, but stem export with either is tedious.
I need to play with the new acoustic drums in Beathawk, as it offers straightforward stem export, and lots of choices to load into your 16 pads ... could be interesting ... just can't picture programming thrash drums that way. It can probably be done, just can't picture it ... yet

I'm not sure I have enough time in this world to get adept at this app, but something about using it makes me feel like I'm being driven around by Buddy Rich in a '74 El Dorado, and I like it. Mmmm... fine Corinthian leather.
Just purchased Rock Drums pack. It sounds really great! I was surprised that it has only 22 mb but such a great sound!
I had a weird thing happen tonight where upon opening DPP instead of starting on the last pattern, kit & song I last worked the app began with the default layout. (Just the kits that come with the app & all stock patterns).
I immediately checked by the song memory and my last song was there, I loaded it, and the custom kit I created for the song came up.
I thought everything was cool, it was just a hiccup , but when I checked in the kit view the kit only had kick, snare, hats- all the other instruments I'd imported and set up were gone.
I have used the new backup feature now after replacing some of the lost samples, but am still curious why the app tripped so hard...
I did use the clear cache feature the night before but all the imported samples & custom patterns remained afterwards...so I dunno???
Not sure what happened exactly, but apparently the last session's state could not be loaded, in which case the default is load.
It's good practice to save patterns, kits and songs regularly. Then, they can always be reloaded at will. Furthermore, the new backup function saves a backup of all user patterns, kits, songs and samples via document picker, such that all supported cloud systems can be used. Such backup can be easily reloaded via the sample load view, document picker icon, which accepts backup zip archives.
The "clear cache" functions removes all temporary files, including the last session's state.
Thanks Marinus, I was just glad the patterns were still there, reimporting the samples was no big deal.
I think the backup utility is great. I know having too many kits loaded etc. can cause CPU issues so the backup allowing us to save multiple DPP set ups with different kits, patterns, etc is incredible.
Am I being dumb?? I looked everywhere but couldn't see if DPP does Ableton Link. Hope so!
Is it possible to switch between patterns via MIDI? So I could switch between patterns live via a MIDI foot pedal and get DPP to follow along with a song I'm playing live?
So rather than have to set the Song structure before hand - It could evolve as the mood takes during a performance.. sometimes one wants to "wig out" on those solos

Yes you can, via midi CC or midi PC, both patterns and kits.
You can load the pattern bank with 64 different patterns. If you would create a song with these 64 patterns as a pattern bank, you can save it and reload it at will. And pick patterns live via the midi foot pedal.

I'd been waiting for the update before I finally purchased DPP - and just pulled the trigger half an hour ago. I am really loving it. It sounds fantastic and I think the control surface layout makes perfect sense (athough I am the sort of person that actually enjoys reading manuals
)

Marinus, excellent app! I've spent a lot of time and money looking for an app like SessionDrummer, EZDrummer, or Addictive Drums for iOS. Your's comes closest.
I can only imagine the code nightmare and limitations of working in the iOS environment but, that said, an easy way to share sample sets among users and even open up third party compilers would be very nice. I purchased the kits available but can't find a suitable sample set. Importation is a little cumbersome. I do not work in the EDM or world music spheres. Multi-layer realism with studio quality kits seem to be scarce for iOS.
RE sample EQ - It sounds like your scheme for EQing samples is non destructive and not additive. That is, re executing a 2db boost at X kHz multiple times is not additive. Is this true? Additionally, if you could make the EQ faders touch and slide to the side with less change as distance increases it would make EQ adjustments much easier and accurate.

You can import a whole set of samples in one go if they have been packed in a zip-file.
Yes, this is true. Processing is absolute in the sense that it always starts from the original sample.
I can see that, although it would not be easy to integrate in the current eq control that allows for "drawing" eq curves by moving sideways.

It looks like I'm going to be working on creating a custom drum kit sample set.
I don't know if this already exists but a drum app that works in the exs, sf2, sfz, formats and is lightweight with CPU usage with some basic editing capabilities sound wise would be something I'd be working on if I knew how to get an app project going.
Something with no sequencing functions just a kit server, with 24bit options and multiple sound file format options (flac, aiff, wav, ogg). Think Lyra but unchained from Auria and with separate kit output volume, balance and EQ. Or even without the mixer functions but with individual instrument outputs like DrumPerfect.
I imagine creating copyrighted kit sound banks can be expensive as those I can find Googling are really not very good and sound like the same samples repackaged. I can't even PAY for a great sample set, lol. Great for me being something like Omar Hakime, Jerry Morotta, Andy Newmark...hi quality session kits with multiple layers like you find in desktop apps.
Sample Tank COULD do it but their drum kit sets are weak and limited as well. I mean, Cobham's vistalites or Fibes kits are cool and so is the Padgem stuff but they are too extreme.

@Marinus I have several Midi files that when imported to DP have empty measures in them so the midi pattern will play one bar then nothing for a bar then play another bar etc. I can not figure out how to delete empty measures in a pattern. Is this possible?

Check the time signature on the Patterns page. You'll probably find it something like 16/4. If it's one a one bar pattern, change it to 4/4.
I find that sometimes the Subdiv needs to be adjusted as well. Sometimes it comes in at 4 and needs to be set to 8 or 16 to get the pattern to sound right.
In addition to Wim's answer:
If you want to remove empty bars in between filled bars in a single pattern, you can go to Grid view, tap Select and select the strokes that you want to move by sliding over them/tapping them, then move the selected drum strokes to the desired location in the grid by using the arrows. Then, shorten the pattern accordingly as Wim says.
Also, there's an option in the Song load view to switch of "multiple patterns" during midi file import. DPP will then follow the pattern scheme of the midi file and does not put multiple measures in a single pattern. The drawback of the latter is that the 64 available pattern slots are filled up more quickly and may not fit the length of the midi file.
Oh! Turning off "Multi-bar patterns" works the way I want it to. Thanks!
