iPhone Sequencers with Core MIDI out?

So, I'm looking for iPhone app(s) that have Core MIDI Out. I need something that I can sequence in order to drive apps like Moog Model 15, Sampletank, Sound Canvas, etc. To you iPhone producers, what apps and methods do you use? Thank you in advance. :)

(I'm still holding out on AB3 for now in case you wondered.)

Comments

  • Infinte looper. Think Aleph Looper is the free version to try. There aren't too many sequencer for iPhone.

  • Aleph looper or infinite looper

  • Xynthesizr, Oscilab, midiSequencer, Midi Sketch, ChordFlow, DotMelody.
    Also STEPS and Concentric.

  • Annnnd BEATHAWK 2.0.2 has MIDI Out! :open_mouth: Now I wish I could return MIDI Sketch, because don't need it now. :D

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • If KRFT does, then I'll have my reason to buy it. ;)

  • BeatMaker 2. You can select midi out channels for each track.

    Hadn't heard of Midi Sketch
    Thanks!

  • I purchased MIDI Sketch just yesterday, a day before Beathawk got MIDI Out. But that's okay, because I'm diggin MIDI Sketch for driving my synths and exporting/importing said MIDI files. It's assignable to any Core MIDI app and doesn't have the fuss of mucking about with a full DAW environment with several needless extra steps and bullshit.

  • KRFT is getting it very soon I believe.

Could you compare MIDI Sketch to Infinite Looper?

    I am curious too! :-)

I wish, but I don't own Infinite Looper yet. :)

  • InfiniteLooper can record midi performances commuted in other apps in addition it can drive multiple sound sources both internal and via midi as well as create and compose whole songs with as many sections as you wish. ( I think there's even a notes an lyrics section)

MidiSketch drives only one midi channel from only one "section or composition" it is however the best I've found fro moving midi data around between apps and a supplemental sequencer when Xynthesizr or midiSequencer is busy with other things.

I'm waiting for BeatMaker 3 so I have one app to do it all. BM2 does it already but the 800mb and confusing file structure drives me nuts.

  • Arpist and Arpeggionome both but I didn't include them because they aren't sequencers (though arpist can do almost whole songs)

Depends on what you consider "bullshit".

Depends on what you consider "bullshit".

For instance, having to name your project before you can lay down a single note (Cubasis and Auria). Sometimes the title does come to mind first before the melody, but 9 times out of 10, trying to figure out a title (even if something simple as the time and day) will most likely result in the original idea lost.

Great app and I'm super glad he made an iPhone version.

I've pretty much settled on Infinite Looper + AUM on the phone, but plan to give Beathawk with midi-out a go tonight. It worked out pretty well on the iPad last night once I figured out the best way to set it up (in AUM). If the phone version is workable, that might be an alternative.

Infinite Looper is actually really good once you get to realizing all the features it has. A bit ugly, and cramped on the phone, but very well thought out and the developer is terrific.

  • I tried out Beathawk with midi-out on the phone and it's pretty sweet as an iOS midi sequencer. I'd give Infinite Looper the edge on features, and Beathawk the edge on interface in some ways. BH is definitely worth checking out.

Does Infinite/Aleph Looper have a swing option? I have looked all over for it and can't find it!

  • Nope, unfortunately IL doesnt have swing.

BeatHawk has swing, but it's strangely inadequate. It applies groove only to notes when they're recorded and can't be applied globally, or after, or adjusted after. What they were thinking on that one is beyond me.
