PUSH TURN MOVE - A Book About Electronic Music Instruments

This Kickstarter Project 280-page coffee table book about electronic music instruments might be seen as OT, but a lot of the focus seems to be about the design of instruments--user interface, controllers like knobs, faders, touch strips, screens, etc. It includes more than 25 interviews with designers, artists and brands.

The goal was $7345 goal has been surpassed ten times over, so there's a lot of interest.

If you want one, you should pledge now for around $50, because they say they will be selling it for $79.

  • Buying a ... book ... about something that changes so quickly and most of the information is on-line? No.

I'm sure it's well produced with worthy subject matter and all that but will quickly turn into door-stop material for me.

Oh look, it's already out of date. :D

Interaction design patterns in musical applications and instruments don't change that quickly and I don't know of many online resources that go in-depth about it. I'd say this is going to be mandatory reading for people interested in UI design and music.

I may not be target market and/or dismissed it out of hand prior to my first cup of coffee on a Sunday morning. :)

I expect all of you devs to have a copy of this in your workspace! Hell i want one.

Actually someone should do an IOS music app version. There's enough out there to compare.

Looks amazing. Not to nit-pick but the grammar in the write up is a little concerning. Hopefully 10x the goal means he can afford an editor! It is a book after all.

  • The book looks pretty interesting, but $50 is a bit of a steep price for it in my honest opinion. That could mean the difference between buying Cubasis/Auria or not. That said, I definitely think this book has a specific audience - developers of music apps, vsts, hardware synths, and of course Andrew Huang. :D

  • It's hardcover art/design book. $50 is actually good price.
