FLSM and FL STUDIO
anyone using this combo in a productive manner? can you copy midi clips from the FLSM plugin to FL Studio?
Comments
I'll give this a look today...
I sometimes use FL Studio for mixing stems, but these days, I ultimately prefer my iPhone as my main production environment (with final mastering being handled by my iPad).
are you specifically wanting to transfer Midi files? I haven't tested that yet (but will).
The more typical usage is simply to load the FLM plugin into FL Desktop, transfer the project into it with the built-in sync function, and then play it back as a track in FL Desktop. It works smoothly enough. It would be useful if you have something in FLM that you want to add to on the desktop. But not much beyond that.
One big limitation is there's no multi-track output into the Fl Desktop mixer. This would at least be useful for mixing and mastering. It's on the to-do list.
@wim thanks i'm aware of this use type. Only downside is sync which does not work for me...
The idea is to use the FL generators and effects to fine tune the song but i would have to be able to sort of break out of FLSM.
Humm...
Sorry, I can't work out what it is you're trying to do or what problems you're having based on the above.
i want to use FLSM as sketchpad and later on transfer midi clips (which i created in FLSM) into FL Studio to finish the track there.
update sync is now working - it turned out inital sync had to be done from iOS to PC...
Ahh ... when you said sync, for some reason I was thinking midi clock or link.
Well, midi files export and import nicely enough, but then all you end up with is a bunch of midi tracks that you then need to assign instruments to. Fair enough. For drum tracks you most likely will need to move notes around to get them to line up with FPC or DirectWave presets. Its not something that I think I'll make much use of, but it works well. In FLM (on the PC), just save the song as a MIDI file, then find the folder the file is located in (C:\Program Files\Image-Line\FL Studio 12\Plugins\Fruity\Generators\FL Studio Mobile\LocalData\My Songs on my system). You can load it into FL Studio in various ways - simply dragging and dropping on to the FL Studio desktop is the way I do it.
