OT , MP3 licensing is over

https://www.macrumors.com/2017/05/15/mp3-format-terminated/

Maybe we will see audio apps adding import/export to MP3 ,since there is no need for license anymore.

    Yessssssssss

  • If it wasn't for the early days of MP3 I would have never discovered Mrs. Miller :D

  • Right now, i am totally into the sound of 4/8 track Cassette recordings. But, i have to ask myself, will there ever be a time, when 128/96k crappy MP3 is "hip" again? :D

Many people have huge MP3 libraries ( > 256 kbps)

AAC is the successor to MP3 in every possible way (technically part of the MPEG-4 specification, ie MP4), I highly recommend people stop using the outdated MP3 conversion algorithms and start using AAC instead. It's been the approved standard for compressed audio by both ISO and IEC. It's literally better in every way with no downsides compared to MP3.

(except it still has a licensing fee for developers where as MP3 is now free. For the user though it's moot, since iTunes has AAC conversion built in)
