Inter app audio landscape....hmmmmm

Does anyone know if the new inter app audio will be similar to the way we purchase apps in Auria but for every DAW ?

Eg: if I want to use Turnado in Auria I have to pay for the Auria version ? If I then want to use it in Cubasis I have to pay for that version?

Hope not ;)

  • It'll probably be a mix of the two. Some apps will have exclusive plugs.

But as I've understood all this is that iOS 7 allows an app, lets say Cubasis or Auria, to call upon/open another app, like a synth app. And communicate with that app/synth. So in theory it would works just like having VST/AU plugs on a regular computer.

    A simple/basic example...

A project in Cubasis uses Magellan on channel one, and preset number 56 in Magellan. When opening that project in Cubasis, Cubasis will in turn open Magellan and call upon the right preset you're using on that channel/track.

And much more then only call upon a preset, obviously. At least in theory. How long until all that happens? I dunno. Lots of apps gonna need updates and so on.

Anyway, that's my understanding of it all

  • I hope your right, like you say it will be a fairly long process probably similar to the adoption rate of Audiobus.

Maybe even slower with diminishing returns......who knows.

  • I wonder if the new inter-app audio for iOS7 will mean that we could finally route the audio from Garageband to another sequencer...

  • I read a little blip on it and it sounds like they still want GarageBand to be the main DAW nothing out only in! I could be wrong, maybe I'm misunderstood something.

  • Seems to be up to mutual dev agreements. For example, Auria just announced that the IAP for Turnado has gone away, instead they will automatically enable it if you already have the Turnado App installed. You get both with no IAP cost. Very nice of them.

  • Who needs inter app audio when you've got Rim :)
