Yes they need to update their apps for the new midi stuff to work but the potential is incredible because it introduces midi effects as well
So you can run Fugue Machine through StepPolyArp and the various Midiflow effects and record the midi in Cubasis
It's amazing and it will only become even more amazing as more devs support it
Imagine if SPA could be used in multiple midi fx slots in AB3. You could then have Fugue outputting your chord progression note through four AB3 slots with SPA as the effect, essentially recording chord rythm, bass and arp all at once and in perfect sync
Also, AB3 is now an AU host which is awesome no matter if you're doing midi or audio
Would you please post a screenshot of your MIDI setup page in AB3? or share the preset?
Something like this

There's not much to get right now. If more developers end up supporting it, then it would be cool but I'm honestly skeptical that it will take off. The updates seem like they'd be more out of loyalty to the Audiobus name than not. Developers can feel free to prove me wrong.
I appreciate the artistry of this arrangement, but why does everybody keep talking about fugue machine into SPA? That sounds like chaos to me. What does that even sound like?
I'm really not getting it.
So the first playhead of Fugue Machine, in this example, is sending a sequence to Cubasis...through SPA? And the others have midi filters...?
If it sounds like I'm being sarcastic, I'm not. I really can't imagine what this sounds like. Does anybody have a video?
Someone needs to put the groundhog out of its misery.
Same here.
I suspect that I am the groundhog in this metaphor. And I also suspect I deserve to be put out of my misery....
Strangely the sdk was not released when AB3 was launched. It means waiting for some months for devs to implement it.
No video sadly but basically FM playhead 1 is sending the notes. Lets say your progression is C-G-Am-F in which case i'd have FM send C-G-A-F notes. The first lane sends it through SPA where i've made a chord rhythm so the first track in Cubasis records the chord rhythm in the above progression
The 2nd and 3rd lane goes through the midiflow scale and randomiser resulting in notes that are within the scale i specify in the midiflow scale app and are randomised. The 3rd lane also has the midiflow transposer in so i can get bass notes instead
It's just a quick example of how you can use AB3 midi. My ideal setup would include a version of SPA that allows multiple instances like the midiflow apps, then it would be like the midi fx arpeggiator in Logic except better
NO!! I did not mean you. Never even joke about things like that.
I mean the discussion and subsequent inevitable multitude of personal feelings that bubble to the top of any AB3 confusion threads.
I think it is fair to say AB3 and ALL apps you use may not be a go at the moment.
If you have some key apps that don't seem to be updated with the proper SDK then do as many and remain on AB2 until said time when your key apps are ready for AB3 primetime.
The MIDI section is a whole new concept. It will not be as easy as you are used to. (at first?)
Understand, the language that apps previously used on AB2 and other apps has been replaced with a new language on AB3.
Not all apps have translated the new language. I don't know if all will to actually.
To hook up midi like you use to on AB3 you need the MIDI BUS brand converter for core midi app.
There is also no AB remote on AB3 FYI.
I hope I helped a little bit.
Feel free to PM me for any other concerns to see if I can assist you.
I bought AB3 to help keep the forum going.
I can explain how I do things like this all the time. I've found that when I constrain sequencers to scales, and then experiment with tempos and patches that I can get some amazing sonic results. Sometimes percussive, sometimes layered pads, and anything in between.
So, it is experiemental/generative in nature.
And the results can many times more than not be highly interesting and useful . More so as you begin to explore these pairings I find. I can not wait to have xynthesizer winh link that is upcoming , brought into this group!
Ditto, along with the MIDI apps.
When I am in my next sketching phase I will likely try KRFT > AB3 midiflow filters > Daw recording... yum!
Bring a cameraman!
Sorry, I don't have a vid of the making of, but this is Fugue into SPA driving Model 15. I find it surprisingly musical and controllable.

That's three of us. Should keep them in cheap coffee until the end of the month at least...
It is quite remarkable that this site is so accomodating to many things that have nothing to do with Audiobus.
Probably something that is all too easily taken for granted.
Agreed.
I always found it meta-neat that the Audiobus Forum sort of does what the Audiobus App does but with people. Oh lord koombaya...
"Surprisingly musical" is generally not something worth chasing, but you sell yourself short. That's really cool -- like some alternate universe Penguin Cafe Orchestra. What is the percussion?
That's the beauty of the whole deal right there Mister.
That is an extremely good way of looking at it!
I feel guilty that I haven't bought AB3. But I have AB2 (though haven't used it much).
If anyone's interested in testing out the Audiobus Remote beta, we'd love your help! You can now sign up for testing here, to try out upcoming stuff.
Super interested! I just saw a video where AB Remote was used extensively, so I can't wait to try out the new version! Thanks for letting us know about signing up for testing.
I would like to see that video, please.
When AUM went out, it was the 2nd big thing in iOS music world after Audiobus. And I've got to admit that the only reason I was still using Audiobus after that was Remote. When you've got 2 devices, Remote becomes essential. Now with AB3, I miss it so much, so I would be more than happy to test what's coming out !
