Oh how I love moog model 15 on iOS

This app just makes me smile and feel so in the zone...thought I'd share a little modulation noodling recorded direct from model 15.

Comments

  • I really enjoyed this! Thanks for sharing :) keep it up!

  • Model 15 and animoog sound so good!

  • I'm still working on a Model 15 workflow, but that synth is a BEAST! :) I can't believe the bloody thing works on my iPhone too.

This said, I like what you made there and have followed you on Soundcloud.

  • Model 15 sounds amazing - Your "drone" recording is a testament to its sound quality,,,

I have no idea why it's sound quality separates it from a lot of other apps (Animoog is also in this category) - but I find myself leaning to open Model 15 and playing with it more and more .... It's flawless in sound - the slightest adjustments can open something magical ... I too have followed you on soundcloud and noticed the KORG NANOkey studio in your other recording (not sure what app that is on the iPad ????) - I have been recently using the NANO in conjunction with Model 15 to control various knob and it's nice to move multiple controls simultaneously - It makes me want for more knobs now at times ..... I'm sure you have probably already done this - being a novice, I thought I was the son of Bob Moog and Einstein for a brief moment .....

Bravo on that recording - sounds great...

  • I watched the tutorial on askvideo.com it helped me a bunch. and take the tutorial in the app it also helps

Animoog isn't anywhere near the sound engine of Model 15, but more than a full class below.
It sounds (often) really good because it uses 2-4 oscillators in detuned and panned monophon settings, which is perceived fat by nature.
Try it with a single osc and a high resonance filter sweep - it just sucks, in particular the bottom end.
A Minimoog (or proper emulation) stands any competition with just that bare tone, sonically naked, so to say ;)

  • animoog is rusty. Model 15 is dusty. both great.

  • Love Model 15. There's nothing like it on iOS.

It's been just over a year since it was released, but that space at the bottom of the cabinet remains tantalisingly empty. Does anyone have a theory about what may fill the space?

  • DRC would complement it nicely... Wavemapper/iWavestation for those spacey sounds.
Or something completely different like the M3000 Mellotron, the Peter Vogel CMI to bring back an 80s picture of early digital.
Add some Apesoft/Amazing Noises, Holderness and Kymatica for FX... an endless palette of soundcolor B)

  • i can only agree, m15 has opened up a world of music for me... after a year i still am regularly amazed by the quality of tones it can produce. a near perfect implementation of a near perfect moog design.

    my m15 tips:

use midiLFOs to get 4 complex LFO modules which you can utilize via the midibridge, works great for many things. maybe we could get together and ask for 14 bit cc support...hint hint

moebius lab and m15 can be joined together via the audiobridge, essentially adding the modules together into a single system. just barely scratched the surface with this... but wow

  • What do ppl think about the sound quality of m15 compared to iMini (minimoog app)- I believe it allows 2 oscillators?? (from memory)

--id love to hear some recordings from m15. The positive comments have me intrigued. It's not a cheap software but then from what you lot are saying, this is maybe why..

I just spent 2 hours with M15 and I can assure you that it's dead cheap for what it delivers.
(having a lot of experience with softsynths and spent a 4 figure amount on them in pre-IOS days)

Thanks for entertaining the post and listening to my piece. Model 15 is a really deep and marvelous piece of kit.

As far as the question on nanoKEYstudio, the photo I have is with it controlling DRC on iPad. It's another juicy piece of lush synth.

Thanks for the follows on SoundCloud you two. Glad things resonate with you all.

Have a great Monday everyone. ;^)

They are two different species of synth though, comparing the "naked" osc and model 15 is going to sound bigger/fuller being a traditional type of oscillator. Animoog is wavetable and the stacked detuning and scanning through the wavetables is what Animoog is..
Apples and oranges and they both sound damn fine by me, but if I could only choose one it would be Animoog because of its uniqueness, luckily don't have to ha!

  • blame it on my mind - whenever I read Moog there's an immediate association of sound o:)
I never minded what technology Animoog was based upon, but it was cool anyway as one of the first apps to show the iPad's potential in music. The interface is ingenious.

  • Another little one, mixing some Xynthesizr pads with the Model 15...makes me want to take a nap in a hammock :)

iMini has 3 oscillators + noise generator. It's a far different type of synth than Model 15, but in terms of pure sound quality, it can't compete. Most apps can't compete if I'm being truthful. That's not to say that other apps sound bad...many of them sound really good. It's just that Model 15 sounds Holy **** kind of good. Personal opinion of course.

  • Was running it in an aum session and it was peaking at 108% at times. Removed it from the session and peaks dropped to the 50's

Yeah. I'm always a little afraid to load up M15 in a session. Always a crackle at least when it loads in modstep. It makes me wary of using it actually. It's the first app that has done this on my rapidly filling 128G Air2. Advice?

  • Model 15 Link synced to Reason is where it's at for me.

increase samples. at 96kz and 24bit audio with eco mode off and running it at full quality you really cant go below 1024 samples and model 15 alone with no other app. guess we need an ipad pro 3 to use the model 15 with other apps at full quality.... i'm hoping the pro 2 atleast has a quad core. one can dream ne ?

for a non-dedicated DSP piece of software it's stunning - really hard to tell from analog, that means a good analog

Very encouraging! Do you have any examples? Maybe I'll check out our Doug's review tonight.. he's a legend!

  • Warmest analogue style synth I've come across so far. Especially thru decent speakers the low end is really nice

    Sounds really nice man.
I'm just chilling out after the gym and this is doing the trick! Good work!

  • Tell you what, ever heard the 'Serenity' track from the Resident Evil games? (It's used in the save game/typewriter scenes). Theirs is gloomier, but in a small way, this reminded me of it.
