Question: StepPolyArp
I love SPA. I find it the best place to write bass lines (TJ) and melodies (Module). My problem seems to be exporting Midi files. In as far as I can't seem to find an handy button that will do that for me.
If I'm not missing something obvious (as ever) what's the best way to record Midi out in your opinion or experience? And if the answer is Cubasis, what's the simplest method (or perhaps the only method....).
Appreciate any simple-put boffinery.
Comments
I just tried to do it via IAA and then via AB3 midi and both gave me problems.
Old school: make a midi track in Cubasis and tell it to listen on the SPA port in the routing tab on the track sidebar.
In SPA MIDI setup don't point it at Cubasis. Just tell it to use its own virtual port for output.
Set both to the same tempo. Or deal with setting up clock between the two.
Start Cubasis recording and go fiddle with SPA.
In AB3, SPA was always "busy".
With IAA, I couldn't get SPA to start it's clock.
Just use steppolyarp arp with link sending midi into modstep or gadget. That's how I record it's midi output.
I find the easiest way is to make a midi track in the daw of choice with 1 bar notes following the chord progression, send this to SPA and record the output to another track. This works in both Cubasis and Auria Pro
The other, more advanced, option is to use AB3 with Fugue Machine sending the 1 bar notes and use SPA as a midi effect in AB3. This allows you to use other midi effects and record multiple midi tracks into Cubasis at once. Now, if only SPA could be used multiple times in AB3...
I believe the first option is the simplest and it's not dependant on your choice of daw
@syrupcore @jn2002dk @gonekrazy3000 Thank you all. Sometimes just getting confirmation that there isn't a hit this damn button you fool is almost answer enough
Will have a fiddle with your suggestions.
